Tysons may not have the liveliest nightlife at the moment, but that could soon change as more late-night restaurants and places to hang out open. “Tysons After Dark” will highlight a different spot every week.

Thursdays are for karaoke. Several restaurants around the Tysons area let people step up to the mic to sing popular songs.

TD Karaoke (2980 Gallows Road)

Locals can find a modern interior with karaoke and bar grill in Merrifield. Private rooms are available to book from $30-$180 per hour. TD Karaoke is open from 4 p.m.-2 .m. Monday-Thursday, 4 p.m.-4 p.m. Friday-Saturday and 1 p.m.-2 a.m. on Sundays.

Clare and Don’s Beach Shack (130 N. Washington Street)

The “beach shack” serves up Floridian food with vegan and vegetarian options in Falls Church. “Boardwalk Karaoke” takes place from 9:30 p.m.-1 a.m. on the first Saturday of each month (Oct. 5, Nov. 2 and Dec. 7) through the end of the year. Dogs are welcome.

Mark’s Pub (2190 Pimmit Drive, Suite E)

Formerly known as Art’s Tavern, the Falls Church area sports bar has karaoke every Saturday at 9:30 p.m.

Tysons Biergarten (8346 Leesburg Pike)

Every Thursday from 4:30-9 p.m., people can sing to old and new songs. There’s no cover charge. During the beer garden’s happy hour (3-9 p.m. on weekdays), people can order $5 beers.

Oktoberfest is here and numerous places around Tysons are hosting celebrations.

In Germany, celebrations began last Saturday (Sept. 21) and will run through Sunday (Oct. 6), but local businesses in the Tysons area plan to host both traditional and unorthodox events through the end of the month.

Tysons Biergarten

Tysons Biergarten (8346 Leesburg Pike) planned activities to celebrate the merriment all month long. This Saturday (Sept. 28), the Biergarten is hosting its Dogtoberfest from 3-7 p.m. There will be dogs from local shelters available for adoption, and beer from Flying Dog Brewery will be on tap. Check their website for events happening throughout October.

They will wrap-up the celebration on Saturday (Oct. 19) with a final event featuring live music, games, face painting and five tasing samples. Tickets are $10 and this event runs from 3-7 p.m.

City Works Eatery and Pour House 

This season, City Works (1640 N. Capital One Drive) is offering a specialized menu on top of their house German-style lagers, including a house-made herb spaetzle and a chicken schnitzel. These will be available until Sunday, Oct.6.

The Vienna Wine Outlet

This location is hosting an event on Monday (Oct. 14) from noon to 6 p.m. to educate the community about the similarities between beer and wine.

Audacious Aleworks

Audacious Aleworks Brewery and Taproom (110 E. Fairfax Street) will host an Oktoberfest celebration on Friday (Sept. 27) from 4-9 p.m., Saturday (Sept. 28) from noon to 7 p.m. and Sunday (Sept. 29) from noon to 6 p.m.

Sweetwater Tavern

Sweetwater Tavern Merrifield (3066 Gate House Plaza) is offering customers unlimited food and two drink tickets. All age groups are welcome and tickets start at $35 for adults and $12 for children. Those who purchase tickets in advance will be entered in a raffle to win $50.

For those who do not drink or would rather take part in other fall festivities, there are other options around town including festivals and volunteer opportunities.

Tysons West Fall Festival

This free fall festival on Saturday (Oct. 5) from 1-5 p.m. will feature family-friendly events including face painting, balloons, crafts and photobooths.

Merrifield Fall Festival

This festival gives attendees the opportunity to enjoy some fall weather while listening to live music, enjoying brews from Caboose Brewing Company in Strawberry Park and shop at the local farmers market and on-site craft fair. This event is free to attend and takes place from 11 a.m to 6 p.m. on Saturday (Sept. 28).

Also, the Vienna Business Association needs volunteers to work Vienna Oktoberfest 2019. There are a variety of time-slots and shifts available including ticketing attendants, clean-up, set-up and customer service associates.

Saturday (Sept. 21)

• Oktoberfest Kickoff at Tysons Biergarten — 3-7 p.m. at Tysons Biergarten (8346 Leesburg Pike) — This event celebrates the new season with a ceremonial Weihenstephaner keg sent from Germany. $10 entry includes several tastings.
• Zumba — Beyonce Get Me Bodied — 8-8:45 a.m. at Hilton McLean Tysons Corner Atrium (7920 Jones Branch Drive) — This event allows attendees to dance their heart out while exercising alongside Beyonce-loving friends.

Sunday (Sept. 22)

• Broadway Princess Party — 3 p.m. at the McLean Community Center (1234 Ingleside Avenue) — This musical experience invites attendees to experience stories of Disney princesses acted out on stage. Tickets range from $35-$85.

The goal is to raise $1,000. Some of the guest bartenders will include Dranesville District Supervisor John Foust and Borzou from The Falcon Lab.

Thursday (Aug. 22)

• Big Screen on the Green: Disney’s “Moana” — 7:30 p.m. at Town Green (144 E. Maple Avenue) — The Town of Vienna will host a free movie for the community along with popcorn. They invite attendees to bring lawn chairs or blankets.
• Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals — 7:30 p.m. at Wolf Trap (1551 Trap Road) — Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals combine blues, soul, reggae and rock while Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue will bring funky jazz rhythms. Tickets are $35.

Saturday (Aug. 24)

• Maggiano’s Back To School Little Chef’s Cooking Class — 8:30 a.m. at Maggiano’s Little Italy (2001 International Drive) —  This event invites families to learn how to make back to school snacks, including an Italian grilled cheese, while interacting with chiefs from the restaurant. Tickets are $25, but free for parents with their kids.
• All ’80s All Night — 7:30 p.m. at The Palladium (1524 Spring Hill Road, Suite LM) — This free event will feature an ’80s themed DJ dance party. Prizes will be given to attendees with the best ’80s outfit.

Sunday (Aug. 25)

• AIR at Tysons Biergarten — 8 p.m. at Tysons Biergarten (8346 Leesburg Pike) — Tysons Biergarten will host an outdoor DJ and dance party featuring current hits from across the world. There will be drinks, food and hookah. Tickets are $5 beforehand or $10 at the door.

Beer lovers have not one but two events this week on Thursday and Friday that they can celebrate around Tysons.

Tomorrow is National IPA Day, a which falls annually on the first Thursday in August, to celebrate the beer known as India Pale Ale Beer. International Beer Day, which falls on Friday, Aug. 2, toasts the craft of brewing.

National IPA Day (Aug. 1)

• National IPA Day at Urbanspace (2001 International Drive, third floor): People at Andy’s Pizza can taste five local and out-of-market IPA’s and pair them with pizza in Tysons Galleria.
• National IPA Day at Caboose Brewing Company (Merrifield or Vienna): The brewery will have the “fan favorite” Fog IPA available in six-packs at Caboose Commons in Merrifield (2918 Eskridge Road) and Caboose Tavern in Vienna (520 Mill Street NE).

International Beer Day (Aug. 2)

• International Beer Day at the Biergarten (8346 Leesburg Pike): Tysons Biergarten will have a “Happy Hour Power Hour” where all of the main floor beer will have happy hour prices from 3-4 p.m.
• International Beer Day at Caboose Brewing Company (Merrifield or Vienna): The brewery plans to celebrate at both Caboose Commons in Merrifield (2918 Eskridge Road) and Caboose Tavern in Vienna (520 Mill Street NE).

• Culture Shock D.C. — 10 a.m. at Theatre-in-the-Woods (1551 Trap Road) — This hip-hop dance show features a local Culture Shock troupe. The show is suited for ages 7 and up. Tickets are $10.

Thursday (August 1)

• 9th Annual Grateful Dead Meet-Up at the Movies — 7 p.m. at Angelika Film Center (2911 District Avenue) — Fans of the American rock band can watch a feature film, which showcases the previously unreleased June 17, 1991 concert. Tickets are $14.50.

Friday (August 2)

• Movie Night with the National Law Enforcement Museum — 6:30 p.m.-12 a.m. at The Plaza (1961 Chain Bridge Road) — The National Law Enforcement Museum invites the community for a free showing of “Zootopia.”  Popcorn and treats from Lolli & Pops will be provided before the show begins at 7:30 p.m.

Saturday (August 3)

• K-9 Law Enforcement-Themed Kid’s Club — 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at The Plaza (1961 Chain Bridge Road) — Kids will have the opportunity to learn about K9 law enforcement by making crafts and watching demonstrations. Attendees can also meet Washington Metropolitan Airports Authority K9 Russell and his handler Corporal Matthew Werner.

Sunday (August 4)

• Free Yoga — 9-10 a.m. at Strawberry Park (2910 District Avenue) — A free yoga class will take place outside for community members. The Mosaic District asks that participants bring their own yoga mat, water and other necessities.

There’s a birthday party in the works for Tysons’ biggest nightlife spot, and you’re invited.

Tysons Biergarten is celebrating its third birthday and a year that has marked a number of changes for the bar with more on the way. Registration is available online.

The celebration is set for Saturday, July 20, from noon to 1:58 a.m. at the Biergarten (8346 Leesburg Pike).

According to the Facebook post:

We will be looking back on all the good times that wouldn’t be possible without you! We will have vendors, food, live music, games, and of course beer! Not to mention we will also be doing a free festival to help celebrate our birthday! Our third anniversary only happens once in our lifetime so make sure you don’t miss it!

Events at the party include a stein-hoisting contest and free giveaways.

While the upstairs is still the German beer-hall scene the brand was built on, the Biergarten recently converted the long tables downstairs into the Room 7 speakeasy — featuring a dress code and rotating music selection with a particular focus on international themes.

Tysons Biergarten had originally been planned to fill the space until nearby developments came online. But while The Boro is close to opening, Biergarten owner Matt Rofougaran said his restaurant is slated to stay in their location at least through the end of the year.

• Help Meow-t! Cat Adoption — 1-4 p.m. at Loyal Companion (2905 District Avenue) — The Lost Dog and Cat Rescue Foundation is hosting an on-the-spot cat adoption event.
• Sean Chuyn at Caboose Commons — 1-4 p.m. at Caboose Commons (2918 Eskridge Road) — D.C.-area musician Sean Chuyn will perform live music at the beer garden and coffee house.
• Athena Styles Patio Pop Up — 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at Famille (700A W. Broad Street) — Outside on the Famille patio, an Athena Styles pop-up shop will sell handmade jewelry, accessories and gifts.

Sunday (July 7)

• Summer Sunday Concerts in the Park with Dupont Brass — 5 p.m. at the McLean Central Park Gazebo (1468 Dolley Madison Blvd) — The free concert series continues with a “new” brass band playing everything from songs by Miles Davis to Jay-Z. Free parking will be at the McLean Community Center or the Dolley Madison Library.
• Josh Groban — 8 p.m. at the Filene Center (1551 Trap Road) — The singer, songwriter and actor is coming to Wolf Trap during his Bridges Tour. Tickets start at $42.
• AIR [An Outdoor Experience] — 8-11 p.m. at Tysons Biergarten (8346 Leesburg Pike) — Every Sunday this summer, the beer hall has dancing, DJing, food, hookah and drinks. Tickets cost $5 for early bird registration or $10 at the door.

As the summer heat wave continues to sizzle this week, locals may be looking for a glass or a pint or a mug of beer.

Here are some breweries and distilleries around the Tysons area for when you want to buy local while wetting your whistle.

• Sweetwater Tavern (3066 Gate House Plaza): One of the three Sweetwater Tavern microbreweries is located in Merrifield. Visitors can find hand-crafted brews and lunch and dinner menus.
• Settle Down Easy Brewing Co. (2822 Fallfax Drive): This Falls Church Nano brewery, which brews beers from IPAs to kolschs, has a taco stand inside and indoor and outdoor seating.
• Audacious Aleworks Brewery and Taproom (110 E. Fairfax Street): Near downtown Falls Church, the small craft brewery specializes in small batch ales, and the taproom has up to 20 beers on tap at any given time along with free popcorn and board games.
• Caboose Brewing Company (Merrifield and Vienna): The 15-barrel-brewhouse is behind both Caboose Commons in Merrifield (2918 Eskridge Road) and Caboose Tavern in Vienna (520 Mill Street NE). Caboose Commons includes a coffeehouse and beer garden behind the Mosaic District, while Caboose Tavern is a brewpub off of the Washington & Old Dominion Trail.
• Mad Fox Brewing Company (444 W. Broad Street): Inspired by Euro gastro brews, Mad Fox Brewing in Falls Church has a brewery and restaurant.
• Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant (7861 Tysons Corner Center): Located in Tysons Corner Center, the Gordon Biersch restaurant brews its beers on site and even offers a view of its brewing facilities and brewery tours.

While not a brewery, the Tysons Biergarten (8346 Leesburg Pike) has more than 100 American craft beers and live music until 2 a.m. daily.

If beer isn’t your thing, the Falls Church Distillers (442 S. Washington Street, Suite A) produces several small-batch spirits including vodkas, gins, rums and whiskeys. In addition to the distillery, there’s a restaurant that serves up Italian fare and a bar.
