An upcoming meeting will provide the latest information on new sidewalks slated for a portion of Kirby Road in McLean.

Dranesville District Supervisor John Foust and the Fairfax County Department of Transportation are scheduled to hold a public meeting tomorrow (Wednesday) evening about the project, which stretches from Birch Road to Corliss Court along Kirby Road.

The project includes new 6-foot-wide sidewalk, curb, gutter, storm sewer and water utility infrastructure on the north side of Kirby Road. The improvements are funded by County Commercial and Industrial Property Tax funds, according to the county.

The meeting will take place in the cafeteria of Chesterbrook Elementary School (1753 Kirby Road) at 7 p.m.

Fairfax County police arrested a 39-year-old man on Sunday (July 28) after he allegedly displayed a knife and resisted arrest.

The incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. in the 8600 block of Leesburg Pike between Koons Tysons Toyota and the Audi Tysons Corner Service Department.

Officers saw a man who appeared to be intoxicated walking toward oncoming traffic. The man took an aggressive stance toward officers and displayed a knife. Officers were able to de-escalate the situation and convince the man to drop the knife. The man began to resist arrest by pulling his arms away and trying to break free.

Police arrested and charged Jon Lincoln of no fixed address with assault on law enforcement, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.

• Culture Shock D.C. — 10 a.m. at Theatre-in-the-Woods (1551 Trap Road) — This hip-hop dance show features a local Culture Shock troupe. The show is suited for ages 7 and up. Tickets are $10.

Thursday (August 1)

• 9th Annual Grateful Dead Meet-Up at the Movies — 7 p.m. at Angelika Film Center (2911 District Avenue) — Fans of the American rock band can watch a feature film, which showcases the previously unreleased June 17, 1991 concert. Tickets are $14.50.

Friday (August 2)

• Movie Night with the National Law Enforcement Museum — 6:30 p.m.-12 a.m. at The Plaza (1961 Chain Bridge Road) — The National Law Enforcement Museum invites the community for a free showing of “Zootopia.”  Popcorn and treats from Lolli & Pops will be provided before the show begins at 7:30 p.m.

Saturday (August 3)

• K-9 Law Enforcement-Themed Kid’s Club — 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at The Plaza (1961 Chain Bridge Road) — Kids will have the opportunity to learn about K9 law enforcement by making crafts and watching demonstrations. Attendees can also meet Washington Metropolitan Airports Authority K9 Russell and his handler Corporal Matthew Werner.

Sunday (August 4)

• Free Yoga — 9-10 a.m. at Strawberry Park (2910 District Avenue) — A free yoga class will take place outside for community members. The Mosaic District asks that participants bring their own yoga mat, water and other necessities.

Fairfax County police are looking for whoever stole two Infiniti cars from a Tysons car dealership after a burglary in June.

The incident occurred around 1 a.m. on Thursday, July 25, at the Infiniti dealer (8527 Leesburg Pike).

“Someone broke into the building and stole a 2012 Infiniti QX 56 and a 2008 Infiniti M35,” according to the crime report. Police said both cars were found in D.C.

Back in June, someone stole a 2011 Infiniti G35 and a 2010 Infiniti FX35 from the same dealership around the same time in the morning, police said.

In a separate incident on the same day last week, police said someone broke into Caliber Collision (1572 Spring Hill Road) and stole keys around 12:30 a.m. — making it the second time burglary this month at the auto body repair and paint shop.

Danielle’s Desserts, a bakery in Tysons Galleria, plans to close in August.

An employee for the bakery said that it will close its doors on Friday, Aug. 16, at 1770 International Drive.

Founded by Danielle Poux in 2010, Danielle’s Desserts offers more than 50 flavors of “Southern-style” desserts, including gluten-free options, like cupcakes, cakes, pies, cookies and more.

The bakery is located on the third level near Saks Fifth Avenue and is open from 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday-Saturday and noon-6 p.m. on Sunday, according to the mall.

A Vienna resident reported alleged fraud by their son’s piano teacher to the Vienna Police Department.

The alleged fraud took place between March 8 and June 13 in the 200 block of Battle Street SW, according to police.

A resident hired a piano instructor for their son and provided the man with their credit card information to pay for the lessons. The man began making unauthorized charges on the credit account. Arrangements were made between the resident and the man to pay back the unauthorized charges, but he has not yet complied with those arrangements.

In a separate incident, a Vienna resident in the 300 block of Nutley Street SW reported that she heard a knock at her front door around midnight on Friday, July 19. “When she looked at her security camera, she observed an unknown man steal the wreath from her door,” police said.

A fire broke out in a Vienna home near the Westwood Country Club yesterday (Sunday) afternoon.

Firefighters responded to the house fire in the 400 block of Old Courthouse Road around 2 p.m., according to Fairfax County Fire and Rescue.

Firefighters “quickly extinguished” the fire in the basement, the fire department said.

No firefighter or civilian injuries were reported.

Tysons may not have the liveliest nightlife at the moment, but that could soon change as more late-night restaurants and places to hang out open. “Tysons After Dark” will highlight a different spot every week.

Tysons has a new Mediterranean restaurant that plans to serve up happy hour specials and a late-night menu.

After a long series of delays, Agora opened at the Nouvelle (7911 Westpark Drive) last week.

The 4,000-square-foot, split-level eatery features Turkish decor — the furniture is from Turkey — with seating for 150 people. The restaurant also boasts basket weave, mosaic lamps, kaleidoscopic inlays, a private dining area and a 12-seat chef’s bar by the kitchen.

The tapas-style menu from Lebanese chef Ghassan Jarrouj blends Turkish, Lebanese and Greek flavors, with dishes like veal tongue, pan-seared scallops served with grapefruit over saffron yogurt and fried cauliflower with tahini sauce and sumac.

While diners can also find Agora in D.C., the Tysons spot has new, exclusive dishes including Lebanese steak tartare, shredded duck confit flatbread with a fig balsamic reduction and tortellini with a yogurt and mint sauce.

Agora currently serves dinner. Lunch and brunch menus are set to roll out the week of July 29, according to a press release.

Three cafeterias in Tysons office buildings are being investigated as part of a Cyclosporiasis outbreak.

Since May 1, 2019 there have been 39 confirmed cases of Cyclosporiasis in Virginia, according to the Virginia Health Department.

According to a press release:

• Capital One Building at 1600 Capital One Drive
• Valo Park Building at 7950 Jones Branch Drive

Valo Park is home to the corporate headquarters of newspaper giant Gannett.

The source of the outbreak has not been found, but health officials warned that the illness could be contracted by consuming food contaminated with feces or stool that contains the parasite.

Symptoms can begin one week after exposure to the parasite, and typically include explosive diarrhea, stomach cramps, nausea, aching muscles, and a low-grade fever. Symptoms can last days or a month for some, but others can be a carrier of the parasite and experience no symptoms.
