Trader Joe’s has a planned expansion in the works at Tysons Station.
Building permits at the vacant space next to Peet’s indicate that the grocery store (7514 Leesburg Pike) plans to demolish the interior and turn it into a commercial use.
Federal Realty, the real estate investment trust behind the shopping center, shows the space already incorporated into Trader Joe’s — totaling 15,286 square feet for the grocery store — on its brochures.
Other changes are also happening at the shopping center.
The space that used to house Tysons Cakes (7500 Leesburg Pike, Suite 12B) is listed as available for rent on the brochure.
After celebrating its 10-year anniversary, a cybersecurity and technology company decided to move its headquarters in Tysons to fit expansion needs.
Founded in 2009, OBXtek specializes in six different areas including cybersecurity, cloud solutions, and IT engineering, according to the company website.
They moved to the new location at 2000 Corporate Ridge Road in late October to “support the rapid growth of the business,” according to a press release.
The new location will have roughly 17,000 square feet of space, which is larger than the previous office space at 8300 Boone Blvd, Dale Spencer, the company’s president, told Tysons Reporter.
Currently, the company employs around 500 people and was recently ranked as one of the most veteran-friendly companies by American Veterans because of its efforts to boost community involvement for veterans.
OBXtek actively tries to hire veterans and participates in the Department of Defense Transition Assistance Program, the press release said.
“OBXtek’s relocation provides us with the opportunity to consolidate our headquarters staff in a modern and efficient facility and helps to accommodate our continued growth,” Spencer said in the press release.

An event management company in the Falls Church area now has more space and more employees after a recent expansion.
Started in 1987 as a woman-owned company called Capitol Services Inc., CSI DMC is a full-service destination and event management company.
After three decades in the City of Falls Church, the company moved from its old 4,750-square-foot office at 108 N. Virginia Avenue to an 8,175-square-foot office right outside the city, according to a press release.
“We had been bursting at the seams in our headquarters space for a quite a while, and I knew we had to make a move to create more space for our business growth — although just down the road, we think Arlington Boulevard is a perfect spot to put down some new roots,” Amberlee Huggins, the company’s president, said in a press release.
The company increased its employees by 25% in the last year, Asha Sedalia Bruot, a spokesperson for the company, told Tysons Reporter.
The company now has more than 135 employees worldwide with 35 based at the new Fairfax County headquarters.

A party store just got bigger by the Greensboro Metro station in Tysons.
Party Mania at 8353 Leesburg Pike is undergoing an expansion to double the size of the store.
An employee said that the store has remained open — and will continue to — as the expansion takes place.
Signs on doors outside the store ask customers to “Pardon the mess during expansion” and also are advertising new associate positions that the store is hiring for.
In addition to the store’s growth, the employee said that customers will soon be able to buy more Halloween goodies, with costumes arriving soon.
A new casual restaurant may open in Tysons as B.GOOD considers expansion to the area.
Though the new location or opening date has not been announced, a press release noted. In addition to the new Tysons location, the company is looking for people to open new franchise locations.
“People shouldn’t feel bad about going out to eat, and B.GOOD is a breath of fresh air to people who want to know exactly what they are eating. We are thrilled to bring our ‘Food with Roots’ to Tysons,” said Ed Yancey, the B.GOOD vice president of franchise development.
The eatery originated in Boston around 2003, and all locations offer a variety of grain bowls, salads, burgers, milkshakes and smoothies. They also have a kids menu, takeout, catering options as well as an on-site dining room.
The company updates its menu seasonally and do not use artificial flavors, colors or preservatives. They also claim to use locally sourced ingredients, according to the press release.
The company is looking for franchise owners who have restaurant management experience and embrace the “farm-to-table” concept.
Currently, there are 80 locations around the world — including a few others already in the Virginia area.

The Helzberg Diamonds at the corner of the Tysons Corner Center food court is temporarily closed as the store seems to be mid-takeover for the adjacent vacant space.
A sign at the construction-barrier notes that Helzberg Diamonds can still be found at a temporary location near the Lord & Taylor on the mall’s first floor.
Started in 2003, CollabraLink provides IT services to federal and commercial clients.
The technology company will move to 22,000 square feet of office space at its current home (8405 Greensboro Drive), according to Newmark Knight Frank, a commercial real estate advisory firm.
“CollabraLink wanted to stay in Tysons but needed a long-term home with the option to grow,” NKF’s Senior Managing Director Chethan Rao said in the press release.
The Highline is a two-building office complex with more than 400,000 rentable square feet on 7.5 acres. The complex includes retail, an outdoor plaza, daycare facility and a fitness center for tenants.
“Location and continuity were extremely important to our firm and the NKF team had a clear understanding of our desire to stay in Tysons,” Rahul Pandhi, CollabraLink’s chief executive officer, said in the press release.

MicroStrategy Inc. scored $1 million to expand in Tysons.
The Fairfax County’s Board of Supervisors approved grant funding from the Commonwealth at its meeting on Tuesday (May 21).
The funds will help the company with its tenant build-out of its facility (1850 Towers Crescent Plaza) in Tysons, which could lead to 300 new jobs at the facility, according to county documents.
Last March, MicroStrategy, which provides a data analytics platform, renewed its lease for its Tysons headquarters for $150 million, keeping the company based in Northern Virginia for another 13 years, the Washington Business Journal reported.
As part of the grant, Fairfax County must provide a local match, which will be in the form of accelerating construction on the Magarity Walkway project, a roadway improvement that is already planned and funded in the county budget. The road improvement was identified by coordinating with the Fairfax County Department of Transportation.
Fairfax County competed with another jurisdiction for the expansion of MicroStrategy’s headquarters, according to county documents.
Based in Tysons by the Greensboro Metro station, Cvent offers software to event planners to help with online event registration, venue selection, event management and attendee engagement.
Many of the new jobs will be in the Tysons headquarters, according to the press release. Other locations around the U.S. and in Canada, England, Australia, Germany, Singapore and India also plan on adding new employees.
In addition to the hiring, Cvent also announced that it will open new office space in Austin, Texas and New Delhi, India and expand in Fredericton, Canada.
The expansion follows a busy year for the company. In 2018, Cvent added 1,000 net employees and more than 5,000 new customers, according to a press release. A few months ago, Cvent added 72,000 square feet of office space to its Tysons headquarters (1765 Greensboro Station Place).
“We hired almost 1,000 people last year and we’re doubling down on our recruiting efforts to ensure we can continue supporting our expanding customer base and delivering the innovations that will drive the industry forward,” Sophia MacDonald, the vice president of human resources for Cvent, said in a press release.

LoKL Gourmet, a gourmet food market and eatery, appears to have some planned changes in the works in McLean.
A recent building permit indicates that LoKL Gourmet is looking to expand at 8100 Old Dominion Drive, Suite E.
Located near the intersection of Spring Hill Road and Old Dominion Drive, LoKL Gourmet offers a juice bar, deli and gourmet market. Its menu includes breakfast sandwiches and burritos, lunch sandwiches, salads, juice and smoothies.
LoKL Gourmet also does school lunches for private schools in Northern Virginia, according to its website.
