Updated at 4 p.m. — Metropolitan Hospitality Group announced that the restaurants are expected to open in “late 2020/early 2021” at 8301 Greensboro Drive.
Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams and an eatery serving up Mexican cuisine are some of the newcomers announced for The Boro in Tysons.
The newcomers will join a long list of stores and restaurants that have already opened or were previously announced for new mixed-use development by the Greensboro Metro station.
Today (Tuesday), the Meridian Group — the developers behind The Boro — formally announced:
- Open Road, an American bistro from Metropolitan Hospitality Group
- El Bebe, a Mexican restaurant also from Metropolitan Hospitality Group
- Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams, an ice cream shop
- The Shade Store
The list also included eateries and stores that Tysons Reporter has previously reported were coming to The Boro, including CaliBurger, Paper Source, F45 Training and a City National Bank branch.
“These additions will be a perfect complement to the diverse mix of uses within The Boro District and will help create the type of livable, urban environment we envisioned from the start,” Tom Boylan, the senior vice president of the Meridian Group, said in a press release.
Additionally, Meridian Group said that the 14-screen ShowPlace ICON theater at The Boro “is slated to open in the first quarter of 2020.”
The Town of Vienna welcomed a new natural health center last week.
The Health Improvement Center held a grand opening on Thursday (Nov. 14) at 407 Church Street NE, Suite C.
Founded in 1997 and run by Dr. Katie Thompson, the center offers chiropractic care, applied kinesiology, nutrition, allergy clearing technique and weight loss programs.
The center is open from 10 a.m.-7:30 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and is closed on weekends, Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The Town of Vienna has hired a business development manager in Arlington County to help revitalize local businesses.
The town recently announced that Natalie Monkou, an Annadale resident, will be the town’s first-ever economic development manager.
Monkou worked in Arlington County for four years, serving as a liaison between the county and three business improvement districts, according to a press release. She also worked as the special assistant to Prince George’s County’s deputy chief of economic development.
“There is so much change happening in Vienna and around the region right now,” Monkou said in the town’s press release. “Because the area is transforming, it’s definitely an opportunity to think strategically and creatively about what economic development and viability will mean for our community and how we can remain competitive and be inclusive and strong.”
Monkou plans to hold a “listening tour,” where she will visit local businesses, according to the press release.
“I plan to get feedback from as many community stakeholder groups as possible,” she said.
Town Manager Mercury Payton said that Monkou stood out because of her economic development experience in Prince George’s and Arlington counties.
Payton’s first goal for the new role is to connect with more businesses so that the town can better learn how to help them more, according to the press release. Secondly, Payton wants Monkou to collaborate with Fairfax County’s economic development office.
“This is an exciting time for the Town,” Payton said. “Having a strong person in this new and critical function may be a catalyst to achieving levels of success that the Town hasn’t yet experienced.”
Drivers should plan to avoid Scotts Crossing Road in Tysons this week due to a series of closures at night.
The Virginia Department of Transportation announced that the road will be closed between Jones Branch Drive and the I-495 Express Lanes starting tonight (Nov. 18) until Friday, Nov. 22, from 9:30 p.m. to 4 a.m. the following day.
The closures are related to paving as part of the Jones Branch Connector project, according to VDOT. Several detours will be in place for drivers.
The Jones Branch Connector project expects to have two lanes in each direction open by the end of the year and final completion in early 2020, according to VDOT.

The Town of Vienna has a new, two-story carwash along Maple Avenue.
Flagship Carwash announced that it opened on Friday (Nov. 15) and plans to hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 6 p.m. tomorrow (Tuesday, Nov. 19), according to a press release.
The company claims that the two-story design allows the carwash to utilize the land. “It completely encompasses all aspects of the wash process keeping our neighbors happy and free from noise and trash, which is common with this type of business,” Owner Guy Paolozzi said in a statement.
In addition to the full-service wash, cars can also get a free vacuuming, according to the press release. Flagship Carwash’s Vienna location is open from 8 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday-Sunday.
“All services are indoors so customers and more importantly employees don’t have to brave the weather. Vienna is a great community, and we are proud to be the first MAC application to be built,” Paolozzi said.
Below the carwash, Chick-fil-A will occupy the ground floor of the building at 540 W. Maple Avenue. The chicken chain announced on Facebook that the new location is set to hold a grand opening on Thursday (Nov. 21).

Fairfax County’s Board of Supervisors wants to team up with the developers behind a Tysons East development on a stream restoration project in Scotts Run.
The partnership between the county and Cityline Partner would let the developer fund part of the project, satisfying its proffered conditions for its Scotts Run project, which would bring a hotel, apartments, office buildings and retail space right next to the McLean Metro station.
When the county approved Cityline’s rezoning application in 2013, the developer agreed to design and construct a stream restoration project in the Scotts Run Stream Valley Park, which is owned by the Fairfax County Park Authority, according to county documents.

As part of the Stormwater Capital Improvement Program, the county has finalized designs and is ready to construct a stream restoration project in a section of the Scotts Run that is contiguous with the Cityline Plan (County Project). The county and Cityline want to implement the Cityline Plan and the County Project concurrently…
Under the proposed agreement, the County will solicit bids for the construction of the combined Cityline Plan and the County Project, and, based on the bid, Cityline will choose whether to fund its proportional share of construction costs or construct the Cityline Plan independent of the County Project.
The county says that combining the stream restoration projects will help the work will get done faster and lower construction costs.
“Additionally, stormwater improvement and stream restoration projects for Tysons are included in the adopted Scotts Run Watershed Management Plan and are part of the Fiscal Year 2020 Capital Improvement Program,” the county documents added.
The board is set to vote on the proposed project agreement tomorrow (Tuesday).

Vienna police arrested a 44-year-old Fairfax man who was allegedly acting disorderly in the Vienna Inn (120 E. Maple Avenue).
After being asked to help with a “disorderly subject” shortly before 7 p.m. on Monday (Nov. 11), police told the man that he needed to leave, according to the police report.
“While the man was leaving the business, officers noticed he was having trouble walking, poor coordination, and subsequently fell,” the report said. “For the man’s safety, officers took him into custody for being Drunk In Public. The man became aggressive toward the officers while he was being placed under arrest.”
Police said the behavior escalated while they transported the man to the Adult Detention Center:
The man continued to act belligerent, yelling profanities at Officer Murray. When exiting the cruiser at the jail, the man spat at several officers assisting Officer Murray. At the magistrate’s office, the man became even more aggressive and kicked Officer Murray. Officer Murray secured arrest warrants for Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer and Drunk In Public.
Police said the man was remanded to the custody of the Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office.

Fairfax County police are looking for the three men who allegedly pointed handguns at a man while robbing him in a residential area of Falls Church.
“The victim was approached by three suspects,” police said. “Two of the suspects pointed handguns at the victim while his personal property was taken.”
The incident occurred shortly before 10:45 p.m. on Wednesday (Nov. 13) in the 7600 block of Savannah Street — the same block that houses the Falls Church Gardens Condominium.
“The suspects were described as black men in their mid-20s,” police said.

Tysons’ 1st Stage Theatre is one of seven arts organizations receiving a grant from ARTSFAIRFAX.
ARTSFAIRFAX awarded grants totaling $105,296 to local arts groups in Fairfax County for fiscal year 2020, according to a press release. The grants range in amounts from $1,000 to $30,000.
The grant for 1st Stage will allow the theater to work with the Maryland-based Olney Theatre on a co-production of “The Royale” — a story about the first African-American heavyweight boxing champion in the U.S. The show played at Olney from Sept. 25 to Oct. 27 and comes to Tysons in January.
“What we are witnessing is how these grants are helping propel the artistic growth of these grantees as their work reaches new audiences within and beyond the county,” Linda Sullivan, the president and CEO of ARTSFAIRFAX, said in a press release.
“Project awardees presented innovative and creative means to engage the community and bring people together to experience arts in fresh and unusual ways,” according to the press release.
Other recipients include the Greater Reston Arts Center, the Fairfax Symphony Orchestra and the Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts.
