Tysons Reporter is back with its new monthly crime map showing where the incidents occurred in Fairfax County Police Department’s McLean District Station.
We went ahead and pulled together all of the incidents noted for the McLean District Station in FCPD crime recaps from Oct. 1-31, weeded out the ones that are not in the Tysons Reporter coverage area and plotted them in the interactive map above.
The McLean District Station covers crime in Merrifield, Dunn Loring, Falls Church, McLean, Tysons and Great Falls.
The map only includes information from FCPD and does not include reports to the police departments in the Town of Vienna or the City of Falls Church.
Use the icon in the top left corner of the map to toggle between the various types of crimes displayed.
Fairfax County’s weekday police recaps are not comprehensive lists of every incident and the addresses are approximate. FCPD also notes that information in the recaps “is generally based on initial reports made to the police department.”

Several companies in Tysons made job site Monster’s list of the best places for veterans to work, ahead of Veterans Day (Nov. 11).
Monster recently published the list in collaboration with Military.com, ranking 10 companies across the United States as the “2019 Best Companies for Veterans.”
DynCorp International, a global government services provider for flight operations support, training and mentoring, topped the list. DynCorp is headquarters at 1700 Old Meadow Road near the McLean Metro station.
“The company recognizes the leadership and life experiences that veterans bring to the workforce; therefore, they accept military training for civilian credentials and acknowledge the importance these skills bring to the success of their business model,” the ranking says.
Logistics Management Institute — or LMI — nabbed the fifth spot on the list. The consulting firm is dedicated to improving government management and has a location at 7940 Jones Branch Drive in the Tysons Central neighborhood.
Falls Church-based IntelliDyne got the ninth spot. IntelliDyne focuses on information technology consulting services and moved to its current spot at 3110 Fairview Park Drive in June 2018 to expand.
Outside of the Tysons area, several companies in Northern Virginia made the list as well, including CACI in Arlington and Intelligent Waves, LLC in Reston.
Monster and Military.com worked with a panel of veteran hiring experts to identify the list, describing the employers as “demonstrating an extraordinary commitment to veteran hiring and retention,” according to a press release.
After celebrating its 10-year anniversary, a cybersecurity and technology company decided to move its headquarters in Tysons to fit expansion needs.
Founded in 2009, OBXtek specializes in six different areas including cybersecurity, cloud solutions, and IT engineering, according to the company website.
They moved to the new location at 2000 Corporate Ridge Road in late October to “support the rapid growth of the business,” according to a press release.
The new location will have roughly 17,000 square feet of space, which is larger than the previous office space at 8300 Boone Blvd, Dale Spencer, the company’s president, told Tysons Reporter.
Currently, the company employs around 500 people and was recently ranked as one of the most veteran-friendly companies by American Veterans because of its efforts to boost community involvement for veterans.
OBXtek actively tries to hire veterans and participates in the Department of Defense Transition Assistance Program, the press release said.
“OBXtek’s relocation provides us with the opportunity to consolidate our headquarters staff in a modern and efficient facility and helps to accommodate our continued growth,” Spencer said in the press release.

A man was rescued from an overturned Buick on Anderson Road near Magarity Road in Tysons today (Thursday).
The crash happened near Lost Dog Cafe in Tysons shortly before 12:30 p.m., Erica Webb, a spokesperson for the Fairfax County Police Department, told Tysons Reporter.
Rescue personnel have now gotten the trapped man out of the car, Webb said.
“No one was transported [to the hospital],” Webb said, adding that it is unclear if the man was injured or not.
Anderson Road was briefly closed after the crash and is now open again, Webb said.
A new shopping experience in Tysons offers customers the chance to try out Pella doors and windows in a showroom before purchasing them.
Pella Windows and Doors (8150 Leesburg Pike) has a new location in Tysons that includes an interactive showroom. The store held a ceremony (Wednesday) to celebrate the new store today.
The store will feature the latest designs by Pella, a press release said.
According to the press release:
Grounded in the philosophy of making it easier and more inspiring for customers to shop for window and door products, the new Experience Center allows customers to curate product selections and demonstrate product comparisons.
Within the Experience Center customers can operate fully-functional window and door products allowing them to experience the difference in performance and design offered by Pella.
Hours of operation run from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday-Friday and 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturdays. The location is closed on Sundays.

It’s been two years since the fatal shooting of a Tysons man by U.S. Park Police, and McLean residents want answers.
The FBI has been investigating the Nov. 17, 2017 shooting where two U.S. Park Police fired into a Jeep Grand Cherokee and hit Bijan Ghaisar, a 25-year-old.
In June, U.S. Senators joined the call for answers in the shooting.
Tonight (Wednesday), the McLean Citizens Association is set to discuss a draft of a resolution that would urge the Park Police and FBI “to disclose urgently the findings from their investigation, in the interest of transparency and accountability to our community.”
MCA made a similar effort last year to obtain new information, according to the draft resolution.
“The Park Service and FBI have disclosed little information about the shooting despite numerous requests from Mr. Ghaisar’s family, elected representatives in the U.S. Senate, U.S. House of Representatives, state and local government representatives, the Washington Post, and our community,” the resolution says.
The MCA meeting is set to take place at 7:30 p.m. at the McLean Community Center.

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue wants to educate locals on how to prevent fires with sprinklers following a fire in Tysons.
Fire investigators say that combustible material left on top of a stove caused the fire on Sunday (Nov. 3).
The fire occurred in the 1500 block Boyd Pointe Way — the same block that houses the Adaire Apartments.
“Crews found [the] small fire extinguished by [a] fire sprinkler in kitchen on [the] 22nd floor,” the fire department tweeted.
No one was injured, according to the fire department. The fire caused $250 worth of damages.
“Without sprinklers, fire growth is unrestricted,” according to a video the fire department tweeted out, adding that fire sprinklers can control deadly heat and flames and give people time to escape.
