This fall, patrons of the Tysons Galleria can expand their style choices with the grand opening of a new store.

Ba&sh, an international clothing brand, will soon join other fashion realtors in the shopping mall. The new store is poised to open mid-September, a Tysons Galleria customer service representative, told Tysons Reporter. Once open, it will be located on level one by Saks Fifth Avenue.

This will be the first Ba&sh store to open in the Virginia area — other locations throughout the United States are based in larger cities like New York and Los Angeles.

The company features items that aim to be “timeless and distinctive,” according to the website.

Fairfax County police arrested a man in connection with fraud at the Louis Vuitton store in Tysons Galleria last month.

On June 2, Julian Kendrick allegedly picked up an online order totaling $9,910 that was linked to a driver’s license from Georgia with a different name, according to a court document.

“The store employees thought that the transaction was suspicious and requested police assistance, however, the employees did allow Kendrick to complete the transaction and receive the merchandise,” police said in the document.

Police said they found Kendrick in his car and he gave them a driver’s license from Michigan with his name to police, who then searched the car and found fraudulent identification, including two credit cards and the driver’s license from Georgia.

Police arrested Kendrick, charging him with false pretenses and for the fraudulent credit card.

A Maryland-based real estate firm recently purchased part of the Arbor Row development in Tysons.

Washington Property Co. announced it bought a 5.2-acre slice of the 2.5-million-square-foot project last week, according to the Washington Business Journal.

“WPC now plans to build about 700 apartments and 8,000 square feet of retail on the site, which is located at the intersection of Westpark Drive and West Branch Drive,” according to WBJ.

Arbor Row’s overarching plan is to transform the back end of Tysons Galleria with a variety of mixed-use buildings. The portion of the project was offered for sale earlier this year after Cityline Partners decided not to follow through on its development plans for the site.

The new owner hopes to start construction within the next two years, WBJ wrote.

(Updated at 12:30 p.m.) Trustar Bank is opening a commercial loan office this week by Tysons Galleria ahead of a future branch in the area.

Last week, the bank opened a branch in Great Falls. The company website said, “As a community bank, Trustar Bank’s strategy is to be a personalized alternative to larger, super-regional financial institutions that increasingly dominate the bank’s primary market.”

While the upcoming Tysons location (1650 Tysons Blvd) will just handle commercial loans, Chief Executive Officer Shaza Anderson said that the company also plans to bring branches in Reston in October 2019 and Tysons in 2021.

The new loan office opens after the company raised the required capital and received regulatory approval from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, she said.

Anderson said that the company partially decided on the location because it seemed to be the most accessible for employees and customers.

Community support has been “overwhelming” during this process, she added.

A proposed senior living facility in Tysons is heading to the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors for a public hearing tomorrow (June 25).

The Mather, a proposed two-story senior living complex, is a part of Cityline Partners LLC’s Arbor Row project near Tysons Galleria, which includes the completed Nouvelle residential building and The Monarch.

The development would transform the back of Tysons Galleria along Westpark Drive into a suite of mixed-use buildings.

The Fairfax County Planning Commission greenlighted the senior living facility earlier this month despite concerns over the project’s height, size and open space.

Lady M Cake Boutique is extending its pop-up in Tysons Galleria while it finds a permanent spot in the mall.

The cake boutique opened in December on the third level of the shopping center in A Taste of Urbanspace (2001 International Drive). The pop-up was originally slated to last until February.

But the cake boutique is still there. A Facebook post says that the pop-up is extended through September.

“We will remain at Tysons Galleria, and look forward to having a permanent boutique soon (location and opening date TBA),” the post says.

An employee told Tysons Reporter that the boutique is eyeing a space on the second level of the Tysons Galleria.

During May, the boutique’s Facebook says the shop will offer a selection of classic and seasonal cakes:

In addition to Signature and Green Tea Mille Crêpes, we are now featuring the inimitable Earl Grey, Passion Fruit and Salted Caramel Mille Crêpes. Fan favorites like Checkers, Chocolate Arc-en-Ciel and Gateau aux Marrons are also available.

Lady M will is open from 11 a.m.-9 p.m. from Monday-Saturday, then 12-6 p.m. on Sunday.

Four years after BoConcept closed its doors in Tysons Galleria, the high-end furniture retailer is finally open again.

The store opened on Saturday (May 11) on the second floor of the mall.

Staff at the store said the core concept is “modular design.” If an item is too large or too small, or if the coverings aren’t the color or texture you like, aspects of the furniture are flexible and can be altered by store staff to meet specifications.

Started in Denmark in 1952, BoConcept has nearly 300 stores spanning 60 countries.

The new retailer is part of a broader series of changes planned for the northern wing of the mall, including a new fitness section and the redevelopment of the Macy’s into a series of smaller stores.

Updated at 11:30 a.m. on May 9 — The Planning Commission decided to defer the decision to May 16. A description of The Monarch was corrected.

A proposed senior living facility in Tysons is headed to the Fairfax County Planning Commission for a vote tonight (May 8) that may result in a recommended denial.

Fairfax County planners took issue with the height, design and open space planned for the two-tower senior living complex called The Mather and have recommended denial of the application, the Washington Business Journal reported in late April.

According to the staff report in WBJ’s story:

Staff does not object to the concept of a continuing care facility as a use, and in fact, recognizes the services provided by such a facility are both necessary and desirable within Tysons. However, the continuing care facility has been designed in a way that reflects the unique needs of the applicant’s specific business model, and does not reflect the urban design recommendations of both the Comprehensive Plan and the Tysons Urban Design Guidelines.

The project includes 18- and 27-story tall towers with a podium connecting the towers on the lower levels and 300 independent living units, 78 assisted living units and 18,000 square feet of retail and restaurants on the lower floors.

The project is a part of Cityline Partners LLC’s Arbor Row project near Tysons Galleria, which includes the completed Nouvelle residential building and The Monarch, which is under construction. The development aims to transform the back end of Tysons Galleria along Westpark Drive into a suite of mixed-use buildings.

The proposal is scheduled for a decision at the Planning Commission’s meeting tonight.

Local chocolatier Craving for Chocolate is planning a pop-up shop in Tysons Galleria to offer a less-healthy alternative to the adjacent Sweetgreen.

The pop-up is scheduled to run from Friday (May 3) through Sunday (May 5) on the first floor of the Galleria. According to the mall’s website:

Craving for Chocolate offers a wide variety of treats, such as sugared pistachios, marzipans, and Jordan almonds, and more exotic flavors such as rose water nougats and bitter orange zest marzipan.  All treats come beautifully wrapped and packaged.

This is the second pop-up in the Tysons Galleria for the chocolate retailer. Craving for Chocolate is also operating a pop-up store inside the nearby Ritz-Carlton Tysons (1700 Tysons Blvd) until May 31.

The store’s milk chocolate selections are $40 per pound or $38 for dark chocolate. Other delicacies, like pistachio nougat or apricot fruit confections, are also available for $32.

The store also offers gift boxes for $28 to $78 or arrangements for weddings, baby showers or corporate events.

The Tysons Galleria pop-up will be open:

  • Friday: 10 a.m.-8 p.m.
  • Saturday: 10 a.m.-7 p.m.
  • Sunday: noon-6 p.m.
