Details are emerging about A Taste of UrbanSpace, a new food hall planned to replace the Isabella Eatery on the third floor of Tysons Galleria.

According to the Washington Post, the new eatery will bring together eight restaurants from across the Washington area. So far, five of the eight new restaurants have been announced. They are:

  • Stomping Ground — A coffee shop and bistro in Alexandria’s Del Ray neighborhood.
  • Thip Khao — A popular Laotian restaurant in Columbia Heights.
  • Donburi — A Japanese rice bowl restaurant with locations in Adams Morgan and Dupont Circle.
  • Ice Cream Jubilee — An ice cream location with locations on the Capitol Riverfront and 14th Street NW, with another location soon to open in Ballston Quarter’s food hall.
  • Andy’s Pizza — A pizza-by-the-slice shop from the D.C. frozen pizza company Eat Pizza.

The new food hall is scheduled to have a quick turnaround, opening this coming Wednesday (Nov. 28), completely replacing Isabella Eatery and its in-house restaurant brands while maintaining the same kitchen and dining spaces.

UrbanSpace, the company running the new eatery, specializes in food halls and markets that support smaller restaurateurs and entrepreneurs. The company runs Broadway Bites and Mad. Sq. Eats, among other markets in New York City.

While Tysons Galleria is still putting together plans to replace the vacant Isabella Eatery, there are a handful of new stores coming to the mall by the end of the year.

The first is Santa’s Workshop, a yearly pop-up that allows kids to chat with Santa and take photos for holiday cards and keepsakes.

Santa’s Workshop will be open Nov. 16 to Dec. 24, from noon to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and until 6 p.m. on Sunday.

Reservations can be made online to skip the line and save $5 on a photo package. A standard $39.99 package comes with six photos of varying sizes, a digital download, and a short video. The $49.99 version has ten photos, digital downloads, and a premium video.

In addition to traditional Santa photos, the Workshop will host “Ugly Sweater” days on Nov. 16 and Dec. 13 and Pet Nights every Monday from 5-8 p.m.

Two other retailers are under construction and expected to open in December, according to a mall employee. Among them:

  • Lafayette 148 New York, a high-end women’s clothing store founded in 1996. The Galleria location will be one of only three locations outside of New York.
  • Lik Fine Art, a gallery specializing in the landscape photography of Peter Lik.

Isabella Eatery was the crown jewel of Tysons Galleria, a sprawling food court that took up most of the building’s third floor. Then it was all gone.

Isabella Eatery debuted in December 2017, but was a ghost town by the end of August the next year. According to Washingtonian, Isabella Eatery faced declining sales that were only compounded by a sexual harassment lawsuit from Chloe Caras, former Director of Operations for Isabella Eatery, against owner Mike Isabella.

The lawsuit was settled in May, but the Isabella brand was irrevocably damaged.

Today, Isabella Eatery’s absence dominates the third floor of Tysons Galleria. While a number of restaurants and shops remain open on the mall’s third floor — including Cheesecake Factory, Maggiano’s and Wildfire — much of the space is empty and cordoned off.

The “food emporium” had eight distinct dining options, a cocktail bar, and a private dining space spread out over 41,000 square feet of Tysons Galleria.

A Tysons Galleria employee told Tysons Reporter that the mall is currently in negotiations with an as-yet unnamed tenant to fill at least part of the Isabella Eatery space. The employee said the new occupants are still looking at using the space as part of a dining facility.

There is no date set for the release of more information about the prospective tenant, we’re told.
