According to county permits, a new Men’s Wearhouse could be coming to a squat, castle-looking building at 1929 Old Gallows Road off Leesburg Pike.

The building formerly had been a Petco, but has been vacant for at least a year. Construction at the building seems to include not just the former Petco, but the closed Mattress Firm that also shared the building.

Men’s Wearhouse also has locations in Reston and near Centreville and there had been one near the Greensboro Metro station.

Permits were filed in March for internal alterations to the building, and from the look of the building, any interior renovations are still in the earliest stages. Tailored Brands, the company that owns both Men’s Wearhouse and Joseph A. Bank, could not be reached for comment, so the estimated time for completion is not currently known.

Co-working area Spaces is coming to The Boro development later this year, adding to its growing D.C.-area presence.

The Meridian Group, the developers behind The Boro, announced the newcomer today (May 30).

“Spaces specializes in building creative workspaces, and The Loft will be a perfect home for this dynamic company,” Tom Boylan, the senior vice president of The Meridian Group, said in a press release.

Spaces will occupy the fourth and fifth floors in The Loft (1640 Boro Place), an industrial-style, five-story-tall building with three floors of office space and two stories of retail. The co-working company is leasing about 50,000 square feet — 66 percent of the office space in The Loft, according to the press release.

Spaces is a coworking brand that provides flexible workspaces under the parent company IWG, which has more than 50 U.S. locations. Michael Beretta, the vice president on network development for IWG, said that Spaces plans to double its number of locations this year.

“The entire DC metro area has seen a meteoric rise in startups looking to call this area home base,” Beretta said in the press release. “As a result, we’ve seen an increase in demand from businesses of all sizes that are looking for flexible working solutions.”

Currently, Spaces has three spots in Virginia — Reston, Arlington and Alexandria — and an upcoming one totaling two in D.C.

“[Spaces’] new home in Tysons will be a perfect complement to our growing community,” Boylan said.

Candytopia is looking to bring its sugary art installations to Tysons.

Curated by Jackie Sorkin from TLC’s “Candy Queen,” the interactive art pop-up made with candy describes itself as an “outrageously interactive candy wonderland” with flying unicorn pigs and a marshmallow tsunami. The pop-ups usually last about four months.

Candytopia’s chief executive officer told the Washington Business Journal that the pop-up concept, which occupies between 14,000 and 25,000 square feet, is looking to open in the Tysons area in the next year.

Candytopia recently opened in Atlanta and Dallas and is “coming soon” to Houston. Tickets vary by location — regular admission for the Atlanta one costs $28, while the Dallas one is $30.

Previously, Candytopia has rolled into San Francisco, Minneapolis-St. Paul and New York City.

The showroom’s closet full of prop Gucci and Saks Fifth Avenue bags says just about everything you need to know about The Monarch — Tyson’s new mega-rich condominium building under construction.

Yesterday (Wednesday), developer Renaissance held a project launch celebration inside their ninth-floor office in the Ritz-Carlton (1650 Tysons Blvd) overlooking the site.

The office also doubles as a fully furnished model residence. Renaissance staff guided prospective residents through lavish bedrooms and kitchens, noting amenities like a direct-access elevator that opens right into the living room and white-glove lobby attendants who can carry groceries for residents.

The building offers a kind of opulence unfathomable to anyone making less than $100,000 a year. Units in The Monarch range from $600,000 to just over $3 million.

Kami Kraft, the vice president of The Mayhood Company, which is marketing the project, said the types of employment in Tysons and the proximity to Tysons Galleria were indicative to a need in the area for new luxury condominiums.

The building is currently under construction and is scheduled to open in late 2020.

The project is part of the Arbor Row development, a 19-acre stretch of mixed-use buildings along Westpark Drive. The first building of the project, the residential Nouvelle, was completed in 2015 and the next phase, the senior living facility The Mather, is going to the Fairfax County Planning Commission tonight.

By the end of the year, clothing brand Abercrombie & Fitch hopes to have a new kids-focused location at the opposite end of the Tysons Corner Center mall.

Staff at the current Abercrombie & Fitch near the Barnes & Noble said the chain is hoping to open a new “Abercrombie Kids” on the first floor by the Bloomingdale’s. Specifically, employees said the plan is to open the new store next to the American Girl doll store.

A manager at the massage parlor next to American Girl said she didn’t know anything about Abercrombie Kids moving into that space, but there are a handful of other vacant storefronts at that end of the mall.

The Abercrombie & Fitch brand dates back to 1892, but Abercrombie Kids started in 1998. The closest Abercrombie Kids store is in Arlington’s Pentagon City neighborhood at 1100 S. Hayes Street.

For-profit school University of the Potomac opened a new 15,000-square-foot campus in Tysons.

The new campus is inside the building at 7799 Leesburg Pike — an office building in the southeast corner of the Leesburg Pike-Beltway interchange — with 15 new classrooms and areas for relaxation or studying. Classes at the new facility started on May 4.

The school is a for-profit business offering associate’s degrees to master’s degrees, as well as professional certificates, though it touts affordability with a $350 per month payment plan.

“The higher education space is going through a lot of changes, as prospective students look for convenience and affordability,” said Rick Murphree, the president of the University of the Potomac, in a press release. “We met the affordability challenge by lowering our tuition by nearly 40 percent. The addition of this new campus shows our commitment to students’ demand for convenience.”
