Neiman Marcus Last Call’s days are numbered at the Mosaic District.
The clearance outlet for the Neiman Marcus chain plans to close its spot at 2905 District Avenue, Suite 100 by Jan. 20, store employees said.
“Entire Store on Sale!” and “Save 50%-75% Entire Store!” signs popped up last Thursday (Dec. 13), an employee said.
Inside the spacious store, shoppers can find designer dresses, handbags, shoes, holiday gift sets, athletic clothes, men’s and women’s clothes and more. The store appeared well-stocked when Tysons Reporter stopped by earlier today (Tuesday). This reporter found a lace blouse from Laundry By Shelli Segal — normally $79 — for $34.50 and $4 bath bombs.
The 50%-75% discounts apply to the lowest price listed on the tags, an employee said.
Fairfax County police arrested a man they say was unlawfully recording women at Tysons Corner Center.
The incident happened on Saturday (Dec. 14) shortly before 7 p.m.
Police spotted a man, who had previously been banned from the property, “unlawfully recording two women,” according to the crime report.
A 45-year-old man from Maryland was arrested for two counts of unlawful filming and trespassing.
In a separate incident, Fairfax County police are looking for the woman who allegedly stole merchandise from the Target (2905 District Avenue) in the Mosaic District.
The incident occurred shortly before 10 p.m. on Sunday (Dec. 15).
“As the suspect exited the store, she assaulted the loss prevention officer,” police said. “The suspect is described as Hispanic or Asian.”
(Updated at 4:10 p.m.) With the holidays approaching, there are plenty of events happening around the Tysons area for people looking for some festive fun.
From tree lightings to shopping events, Tysons Reporter compiled a list of events across the community in the coming weeks.
Tysons
Breakfast with Santa will take place on Saturday (Dec. 7) from 8-11 a.m. at level three of Tysons Corner Center. There will be entertainment by “Those Funny Little People” (featured on “America’s Got Talent“), a balloon artist, holiday crafts, free breakfast and Santa.
Tysons Corner Center will also host a Holiday Storytime PJ Party on Thursday (Dec. 12) from 6 to 8 p.m. on level one. There will be storytime, sweet treats and entertainment provided by Dee Vinchey Entertainment. This event is free and open to the public.
Town of Vienna
The Church Street Holiday Stroll takes place on Monday (Dec. 2) this year from 6-8:30 p.m. Santa will arrive on a Vienna Volunteer Fire Department 1946 fire engine and spend the evening visiting with kids around town.
Mayor Laurie DiRocco is set to help Santa light the town’s Christmas tree around 6:20 p.m. at the Freeman Store and Museum (131 Church Street NE). There will be live music throughout the streets and several businesses will be serving hot cocoa and warm beverages.
The town is also hosting a competition encouraging local businesses to put up holiday decorations. The theme is “Home for the Holidays” and all decorations must be put out by Friday (Nov. 29).
McLean
The McLean Woman’s Club is set to host its annual Holiday Homes Tour on Thursday (Dec. 5) from 9:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m., highlighting four houses — two at the 6-acre Ballantrae Farm estate and another two on Benjamin Street in Langley Forest. Tickets are $35 and food and drinks will be provided. Guests will also have access to a craft show at Trinity Church. All proceeds go to charity.
The 11th annual McLean WinterFest will take place this year on Sunday (Dec. 1) and feature a parade beginning at 3:30 p.m. between Fleetwood and Elm streets on Old Chain Bridge Road. Beverly Road and Fleetwood Street to Old Chain Bridge Road will be closed to traffic along with the parade routes beginning at 2 p.m. that day.
Falls Church
Nova Lights Chorale will host a free global holiday concert at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church (3439 Payne Street) on Sunday (Dec. 8) at 4 p.m. The performance will feature songs in more than seven languages and from different cultures.
The Annual Lighting of the Trees will take place on Monday (Dec. 2) at Mr. Brown’s Park (W. Broad Street) around 6 p.m. Santa will be in attendance, escorted by the Falls Church Volunteer Fire Department. There will be live music from the George Mason High School Chamber Singers and free hot cocoa.
The Holiday Craft Show will take place at the Falls Church Community Center (223 Little Falls Street) on Saturday (Dec. 7) from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. and Sunday (Dec. 8) from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m.
Mosaic District
People can get their selfies with Santa in the street-level lobby of the Target building (2905 District Avenue, Suite 400) from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays between Nov. 30-Dec. 23, Friday (Nov. 29) and Monday (Dec. 23).
A Holiday Gift Fair is coming to Mosaic District on Friday (Dec. 6) from 3:30-8:30 p.m. The fair will feature more than 50 vendors selling handmade and vintage goods.
On the same day, people can also watch the Holiday Tree Lighting from 5-7 p.m. in Strawberry Park.
Autonomous vehicles connecting the Mosaic District to the Dunn Loring-Merrifield Metro may arrive as soon as next spring.
Earlier this year, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors decided to start a pilot program for self-driving vehicles as a shuttle service. Dominion Energy and the county decided to partner up on the program.
Deputy County Executive Rachel Flynn said at a Bisnow event today (Thursday) that the autonomous vehicles are expected to arrive in the spring or summer.
The vehicles will come from EasyMile, which is based in France, she said.
Flynn also said that the county has received a grant from the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation, but did not disclose the amount.

Shoppers at the mixed-use development in Merrifield can expect a Sephora and Drybar to arrive.
As for food, a Connecticut-based eatery called The Granola Bar is the latest of half of a dozen eateries planning to open, including Neapolitan pizza chain Pupatella and Urban Hot Pot.

As businesses and restaurants start moving into an apartment building in the Mosaic District, people might notice that the building is absent from the “map view” on Google Maps.

Locals can learn about human trafficking prevention in McLean next week — just days after Fairfax County police busted an alleged sex trafficking ring in the Mosaic District.
Police arrested two Falls Church residents and charged them with felony sex trafficking in connection with a sex trafficking operation run out of the Avalon Mosaic after police raided one of the units, Fox 5 reported yesterday.
“Police did not say whether they identified any sex trafficking victims,” the story said.
Juemin Luo, 35, bonded out of jail, while Feng Ni, 32, is being held without bond, according to Fox 5.
At a meeting next Thursday (Oct. 10), the Citizens Advisory Committee for the McLean Police District Station will focus on ways to identify and prevent human trafficking.
Police told Tysons Reporter that the topics for the regularly scheduled Citizens Advisory Committee meetings are often determined a month in advance.
The meeting will take place at 7 p.m. at the McLean Governmental Center (1437 Balls Hill Road) and is open to the public.
Attendees will also be able to learn about resources for people who are victims of human trafficking.

Shoppers can expect to find Sephora and Drybar in Mosaic District in the near future.
Several newcomers are planning to come to the mostly-empty building that also houses West Elm (2921 District Avenue), according to building permits.
Drybar, a national hair salon chain that specializes in blowouts, has a building permit for suite 110. Next door, a Connecticut-based eatery called The Granola Bar has a permit for suite 120.
Madison Reed, which sells hair color products, has a permit for suite 130. Beauty store Sephora plans to occupy suite 140.
Can’t wait for the stores to come to Merrifield? The nearest locations for Drybar and Sephora are at Tysons Corner Center.

A new education center opened in the Mosaic District earlier this month.
Kumon (2980 District Avenue) began enrollment in late August and now offers young students extra help in subjects like math and reading to supplement their education, Tanya Khandpur, the location’s owner and main educator, said.
The center works with kids from the early stages of reading and math all the way through calculus and reading comprehension, according to the location’s website.
Khandpur said that business has been excellent since they opened and that the center has met its enrollment goals.
She employs several assistants to help teach the kids at the center in small groups. “For students qualifying into our early learning program we work two students to one assistant and for our main classroom, we work four students to one assistant,” Khandpur said.
Parents who are interested in the company’s programs can sign up online or attend an orientation session. The center is open from 3- p.m. Monday-Thursday.
Kumon also has locations in Vienna (525 W. Maple Avenue), Falls Church (7115 Leesburg Pike) and McLean (1320 Old Chain Bridge Road).
Once a Kumon student herself, she said she personally believes in the center’s mission.
“I feel very strongly that the Kumon program can serve beyond academics and build a strong bond between parents and children, especially when implemented correctly.”
