A large-scale Korean cultural festival is being held in Tysons this weekend.
The 2018 KORUS festival is taking place Saturday, Oct. 6 and Sunday, Oct. 7 in the parking lot outside Bloomingdales at Tysons Corner Center.
The event will feature food, music, cultural performances, vendors and more. It’s billed as “a celebration of the Korean American way of life, Korean heritage and culture, and the beauty of America’s diversity.”
“With close to 30,000 visitors and participation from over 50 vendors, retailers, and community groups; 20 performance artists; and more than 100 volunteers, the festival truly represents the Korean American community nationwide,” says the KORUS website.

The annual festival will be located in the Bloomingdale’s Parking Lot (by LL Bean, Bloomingdales and Le Pain Quotidien) and invites people of all ages and ethnicities will come together to celebrate the Korean American way of life, Korean heritage and view stunning cultural performances, demonstrations, contests, food offerings, arts & crafts, and so much more.
The Void, described as a “virtual reality entertainment center,” is opening a location at Tysons Corner Center.
The VR business, which is backed in part by Disney, opened its first location in Utah and has since expanded to cities like Toronto, London and Dubai. The Tysons location will be The Void’s first D.C. area location, and is part of an expansion that includes new locations in Atlanta, Austin, Dallas, Los Angeles, Minnesota, New York City and Philadelphia.
The company’s website and a large sign outside of the future Tysons location, on the movie theater wing of the mall, only say that it is “coming soon.”
Among the virtual reality experiences offered by The Void in Tysons will be “Ghostbusters Dimension” — as seen in the video below — and “Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire.”
Fast-growing restaurant chain Pokeworks is now hiring for its new location in Tysons Corner Center.
The build-your-own poke bowl eatery will be located on the lower level food court of the mall. Pokeworks touts its “healthy, customizable Hawaiian poke bowls, burritos, and salads” which feature a choice of marinated raw fish or cooked proteins.
Pokeworks is planning a job fair next week in an attempt to staff up for its forthcoming opening, according to one of the co-franchisees.
“We will be conducting a hiring open house at our restaurant on Monday, Oct. 8 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m.,” Viengkeo Tzong told Tysons Reporter. “We are actively looking to hire crew members and anticipate a grand opening towards the end of the month.”
“We are very excited to be a part of the Tysons community,” Tzong added.

A Spirit Halloween store is now open on the first level of the mall, near the movie theater end of the shopping center in the former West Elm space. An employee said the temporary storefront has been open for about two weeks now.
Spirit is open at the mall from 10 a.m.-9:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. on Sunday. A sign in the window says the store is still hiring.
For those around Fairfax County who need costumes and decorations for the spooky holiday, Spirit also has locations at 7271 Arlington Blvd in the Falls Church area and at 5718 Columbia Pike in Bailey’s Crossroads.

Bliss in a Bottle, an Ohio-based company that offers unique boozy gifts, is planning to open a kiosk at Tysons Corner Center, according to a pending license application.
The company sells beer and wine with a twist: the bottles are covered in chocolate, sprinkles and other candies.
An online help-wanted ad for the kiosk says Bliss in a Bottle “combine[s] high profile wine, beer, and sodas with chocolate that is perfectly paired to create an unparalleled experience.” The company is currently hiring a “retail sales associate” to work in Tysons. The job pays $10-12 per hour, according to the posting.
Blesssed, a store specializing in high-end shoes, has moved from Fair Oaks Mall to Tysons Corner Center.
The store opened on Sept. 16 on the mall’s second level, next to the H&M. Prices range from the $200 Nike Air Max 98 Exotic Skin to items like the $5,000 Nike Air Yeezy 2 Solar Red.
Blesssed also appraises and buys items for resale.
“If you have product such as shoes, accessories or apparel that you want to sell and turn into cash, bring it to us and we will appraise it and determine what we can offer as a cash offer or as a shuffle credit towards anything available in-store,” says the store’s website.
Charlie Puth, the hit singer known for his debut single “See You Again,” will be headlining a party at Tysons Corner Center to announce the lineup for this year’s HOT 99.5 Jingle Ball.
Starting at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 9, The Kane Show and the HOT 99.5 crew will broadcast live from the mall. Puth is scheduled to give a special performance from The Plaza at Tysons Corner Center during the broadcast.
This event is open to the public with no ticket required.
At 5 p.m., the lineup of the Jingle Ball concert will be announced, followed by a chance to win tickets to the show, according to the radio station’s website.
The Redskins Runway Show is returning to Tysons tomorrow (Friday) at 6 p.m. in the Tysons Corner Center mall’s Bloomingdale’s.
Now in its fourth year, the annual show features Redskins players, wives, and the First Ladies of Football modeling the latest fall fashions.
Ten percent of all purchases at Bloomingdale’s that evening raise funds the Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation, an organization that supports youth programs across the region.
A $100 ticket comes with a “swag bag”, a chance to mix and mingle with the Redskins celebrity models with food and beverage provided, and admission to the Runway Show. A silent auction held that evening will feature over 25 exclusive Redskins items and experiences.

(Updated at 9 a.m) Video has emerged of an arrest in Tysons Corner Center mall that escalated into a brawl.
In the video, uniformed officers and officers in plain clothes apprehend and force to the ground several people outside of Swatch, a watch store on the first level of the mall. At one point, one of the victims on the ground says “I can’t breathe.”
When other people join in the melee, someone is heard shouting “shoot him.”
Following the initial publication of this article, Fairfax County Police released the following statement about the brawl.
Two young men were seen concealing merchandise at the Tysons Mall. Tysons Urban Team officers attempted to detain them and they resisted. Three other with them interfered with the arrest. Officers were able to take all five into custody but three officers received minor injuries. Two of the arrested complained of pain and were evaluated by the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department. Two of the involved were juveniles and released to their parents. Abdias Umana, 20, of Hyattsville MD, was arrested for petit larceny, two counts of obstruction of justice, and disorderly conduct. Cameron Reeder, 18, of Landover Hills MD, was arrested for obstruction of justice and two counts of petit larceny. Jairo Martinez, 19, of Hyattsville MD, was arrested for two counts of obstruction of justice and one count of disorderly conduct.
While car and metro are still the go-to for many Tyson commuters, some local establishments are working to make bicycling a little more accessible.
Towers Crescent, a sprawling four building mixed-use complex, recently added new bicycle parking and repair tools inside the parking garage on-site and on the nearby streets. Towers Crescent also created a series of bicycle maps for riders to navigate around the North Tysons area.
