Be warned if you’re planning on displaying any Carolina Hurricanes gear in McLean: your new neighbor Evgeny Kuznetsov might take exception.
Kuznetsov, a Russian-born 26-year-old center for the Washington Capitals, and his wife Anastasia purchased two adjacent properties in McLean along Spring Hill Road, according to the Washington Business Journal.
The properties cost a combined $5.95 million and the sale closed on March 26. Kuznetsov signed a $62.4 million contract with the Caps in 2017, making him one of the few millennials able to afford a house in wealthy McLean on their own.
If Kuznetsov is looking to grab a post-work drink with some colleagues, Sakura Japanese Steak and Seafood House in Tysons seems to be a favorite of one of his teammates.

Alexander Ovechkin and some famous Russian friends celebrated the Great Eight’s eighth 50-goal season in style in Tysons Tuesday.
Capitals blog Russian Machine Never Breaks reports that Ovi and friends dined at Sakura Japanese Steak and Seafood House, at the Pike 7 Plaza shopping center near the Greensboro Metro station.
Video of the celebration appears to show Ovi and his party — which included a pair of Russian comedians — enjoying pretty much having the entire restaurant to themselves.
Next up for Ovechkin and the Caps: the NHL playoffs.

NFL Network reporter Kim Jones went on the Today Show Wednesday to tell the story about how local doctors saved her life.
In November, Jones suffered a medical emergency while covering a Washington Redskins practice. She ended up at Inova Fairfax Hospital, where doctors determined she was suffering from a rare aortic dissection and quickly performed emergency surgery that saved her life.
An aortic dissection is a tear in the heart, the same condition that killed comedian John Ritter.
Jones told the Today Show anchors that she’s lucky to be alive and grateful for the doctors who saved her.

Tysons Sport & Health has a fresh new look after completing a $2 million renovation project.
At a ribbon cutting last week (Dec. 18), the gym celebrated with tours of the new facilities, music, a photo booth and more.
The main feature of the new renovations are refurbished men’s and women’s locker rooms, with new showers and other amenities. The gym’s basketball court flooring was also replaced.
The renovations are part of a new expansion and upgrading plan set out earlier this year after the gym’s operator, Tysons-based US Fitness Holdings, sold a majority stake to two investment companies for $50 million.
In addition to the Tysons upgrades, the Sport & Health in Arlington’s Ballston Quarter recently completed a similar $2 million renovation and was rebranded as OneLife Fitness.

Virginia voters are in a positive mood and are feeling good about Amazon HQ2, the Equal Rights Amendment, sports betting and casinos, according to the latest poll by the Wason Center for Public Policy at Christopher Newport University. They also want their share of the state’s windfall from tax reform.
By more than two to one, Virginia voters approve of the deal that will bring part of Amazon’s east coast headquarters to Virginia. Overall, 68% approve and 30% disapprove.
Voters support legalizing sports betting (63%) and casinos (58%) and want any related tax revenue to support education and the general fund. But 43% worry that legalization will promote gambling addiction.

Unless there’s ice on the ground, if you drive past Ken Lawrence Park (8008 Jones Branch Drive) just north of Tysons Galleria on a weekday around lunchtime, expect to see a soccer game in progress
Even with near-freezing temperatures and gusty winds Wednesday, the only changes on the field were bulkier cold weather gear — for some — and the normal net goal replaced with two cones. A few players wore shorts.
Nearly every weekday for two decades, the unofficial group has gathered in one place or another around Tysons to play during work breaks.
“It’s good soccer here,” said Daniel Duran, carefully watching for the ball to make its way across the field to him as he spoke. “It’s very high level. Everybody here has been playing soccer for years. It’s a passion.”
For most of the group’s 20 years, the playing field was in Spring Hill, but Duran said when the Ken Lawrence Park opened four years ago the group moved there.
Players come to the game from throughout the region. Some are there during a mid-day break, leaving after a while to head back to their 9-5 job. Others like Duran, who works as an Uber driver in the Bethesda area, come to the games before starting work.
Duran said there are roughly 60 players in the group, but only 22 people can play at any given time. Show up after the 22 mark and you’re out of luck and have to play on another field.
Carlos Terejos has been playing with the group for seven years. He said that winter weather typically results in a reduction in active players, but the games still go on.
“In winter time, most people take off,” said Terejos. “But it keeps me in shape.”
Runners will be able to “wattle” to the finish line in the 16th annual Vienna Turkey Trot. Registration is open for the annual 10K, 5K, and fun run through Vienna next Sunday (Nov. 18).
The course starts at the Vienna Volunteer Fire Department at 400 Center Street. Following the race, music and refreshments will be offered at a festival near the finish line.
Today (Friday), tickets for the 5K are $35 and tickets for the 10K are $40, but starting tomorrow each price increases by $5.
Those who register before 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 11 will be entered to win a $25 Whole Foods gift card. Those who enter by noon Friday, Nov. 16 have a chance to win a free teeth whitening at Tysons Elite Dental if they “like” the Facebook page.
To avoid long race-day lines, race packets can be picked up on Friday, Nov. 16 from 4-7 p.m. at Vienna Whole Foods (143 Maple Ave E) or Saturday, Nov. 17 from noon to 7 p.m. at Road Runner Sports (1120 West Broad Street).
All proceeds from the race benefit the James Madison High School Band and the Vienna Volunteer Fire Department.
