An eatery plans to start serving “wild and yummy” tacos in Falls Church in June.

A sign outside 7167 Lee Highway — the former home of Milan Bakery and Miss Donuts — says that Wild Tacoz is coming later this summer.

Owned by Teddy Koumarianos, Wild Tacoz will be the first location for Kool Foods, a company that uses organic ingredients from the Amish community.

“The plan is now to open the doors for business in the first half of June 2019,” according to a Wild Tacoz Facebook post from May 5.

A previous sign last June said that it was coming in fall 2018. “There was a delay on the construction due to the age of the building, but through modern technology, construction is moving along at a much faster pace,” the eatery posted this March.

Recently, the space had new drywall, according to another Facebook post.

A new 28-home subdivision could be coming to Lee Highway just west of Merrifield, replacing a private, heavily forested plot on the Bear Branch stream.

Today, the 10-acre lot is mainly forested with a few small buildings. A narrow gravel road is closed off with a fence, but maps show it leads to a small clearing at the center of the property.

The new development will replace that woodland with new houses, with 1.8 acres preserved and dedicated to the Fairfax County Park Authority. The application notes that 86 percent of the current vegetation on the property will be destroyed.

The new homes would be located on the northern border of Armistead Park, an 11-acre public park. A six-foot-wide trail would also connect the existing trail in Armistead Park to Lee Highway.

The application says an existing pond on the property will be rehabilitated as an amenity for residents, with a dock and seating area for fishing or community gatherings.

An application for the subdivision was filed in December, with pre-staffing for the project scheduled for next Monday (March 18). The subdivision is tentatively scheduled for a Planning Commission hearing in July.

For years, the shared sidewalk on the south side of Lee Highway has ended abruptly with a ditch.

But a planned bike/pedestrian path on the highway just south of the Vienna Metro station could finally bridge that divide and make the sidewalks more walkable.

At a meeting tonight (Tuesday), Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is scheduled to discuss plans to complete missing segments of a shared-use path on the southern side of Lee Highway between Vaden Drive and Nutley Street. The path aims to improve safety and accessibility for bicyclists and pedestrians near the Fairlee neighborhood.

The $1.3 million project is being funded through the Transform I-66 Outside the Beltway project.

Design approval for the project is scheduled for this fall, with construction beginning summer 2021.

The meeting is scheduled for 6:30 at Fairhill Elementary School (3001 Chichester Lane) with a presentation starting at 7 p.m.
