Drivers heading on Chain Bridge Road (Route 123) could face significant delays in the Vienna area due to a crash.
Chain Bridge Road by Flint Hill Road just outside of the Town of Vienna is currently closed.
Fairfax County police tweeted about the closure at 4:43 p.m. “Crews will be on scene repairing a utility pole for an extended period,” the tweet said. “Please avoid the area and use an alternate route.”
“The north left lane, center lane, and right lane are closed,” according to Virginia 511. “The south left lane, center lane, and right lane are closed.”

A man was rescued from an overturned Buick on Anderson Road near Magarity Road in Tysons today (Thursday).
The crash happened near Lost Dog Cafe in Tysons shortly before 12:30 p.m., Erica Webb, a spokesperson for the Fairfax County Police Department, told Tysons Reporter.
Rescue personnel have now gotten the trapped man out of the car, Webb said.
“No one was transported [to the hospital],” Webb said, adding that it is unclear if the man was injured or not.
Anderson Road was briefly closed after the crash and is now open again, Webb said.
Updated at 4:20 p.m. — All of the lanes have reopened, MATOC tweeted.
Southbound lanes of GW Parkway are closed near the intersection with Route 123 in McLean.
The closures are due to a vehicle crash, according to an alert from Fairfax County.
All of the southbound lanes are closed as of 3:24 p.m., according to Virginia 511.
Drivers can expect delays. Traffic is backed up about 1.5 miles, the Metropolitan Area Transportation Operations Coordination Program tweeted.

(Updated at 11:50 a.m.) Fairfax County police have identified the man who was fatally struck by a police cruiser along Route 50 in the Falls Church area yesterday.
Shortly after midnight on Sunday (Oct. 20), a police cruiser struck and killed 40-year-old Carlos Romeo Montoya near Arlington Blvd (Route 50) and Graham Road, police said.
“We do not have a current address at this time,” police said in a press release today. “Next of kin have been notified.”

A patrol officer who has more than four years of law enforcement experience and who is assigned to the Mason District Station was driving in a marked police cruiser in the area of Arlington Boulevard and Graham Road. The officer was responding to a call for service for disorderly subjects.
The marked police cruiser was proceeding through a green light eastbound on Arlington Boulevard approaching the intersection of Graham Road.
This intersection has a pedestrian crosswalk with a pedestrian signal for the crosswalk. The posted speed limit for Arlington Boulevard in that area is 45 miles per hour.
As the police cruiser proceeded through the intersection, an adult male was struck in the left travel lane of Arlington Boulevard by the cruiser. The location of impact was within the crosswalk as determined by the police cruiser in-car video.
The officer immediately stopped to render first aid and called for the Fire and Rescue Department. The pedestrian was transported to the hospital by rescue personnel and was pronounced deceased.
“The best information we have right now is that the officer did have a green list, was proceeding through the intersection and that the pedestrian was, unfortunately, crossing against the ‘Don’t walk’ sign,” Chief Edwin Roessler Jr. said during a press conference yesterday.
Montoya’s death marks the 14th pedestrian fatality in the county this year, according to police.
“This is an intersection that has a historical issue with pedestrian safety,” Roessler said at the press conference.
Cyclist and pedestrian advocates are urging people to attend a meeting tonight (Monday) about changes to Route 50.
The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is looking to get community feedback about a Route 50 study currently underway to identify potential safety and operational changes for Route 50 between Jaguar Trail and Wilson Blvd.
The Fairfax Alliance for Better Bicycling (FABB) took to social media to urge people to attend the meeting.
Bruce Wright, a board member of FABB, said that the Graham Road and Route 50 intersection was identified in 2004 “as a big problem” for pedestrian safety and is “still very dangerous.”
Wright said that service roads along Route 50, the dense residential area nearby and high speed limit contribute to the safety factors at the intersection. Wright said he wants VDOT and the county to consider redesigning the intersection and lowering the speed limit.
“It is such an important corridor and yet it’s optimized for motorists,” Wright said.
FABB is working with local police to identify where bicycle crashes are happening, Wright said, adding that the group wants to work with VDOT as well.
The crash is currently under investigation and is working to determine the cruiser’s speed, the lighting conditions at the intersection and the condition of the pedestrian walk sign, along with a forensic medical examination, police said.
“The results of the investigation by the Crash Reconstruction Unit will be presented to the Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney for Fairfax County,” the press release said.

Drivers can expect delays from a crash this morning at the intersection fo Tysons Blvd and Galleria Drive.
A tow truck is on its way and drivers can expect a brief right lane closure, Sgt. James Curry, a police spokesman, told Tysons Reporter.
Traffic was heavy on Tysons Blvd around 9:55 a.m., according to Google Maps.
Curry said that no injuries have been reported.

A crash today (Tuesday) has closed several lanes on Leesburg Pike near the ramp from I-495 in Tysons.
The east left lane and the left center lane are closed, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).
Drivers should expect delays due to the crash.

Two people have been taken to the hospital after a crash on Westmoreland Street in McLean this evening (Tuesday).
Police responded to the call around 5:15 p.m. for a head-on collision involving two vehicles on Westmoreland Street by Old Chesterbrook Road, spokesman Sgt. James Curry told Tysons Reporter.
Two people have non-life threatening injuries and have been taken the hospital, Curry said.
Westmoreland Street is temporarily shut down and tow trucks are in route, Curry said around 5:30 p.m.

(Updated at 4:45 p.m.) One person has been taken to the hospital after a car ended up on its side in the front yard of a McLean home.
Fairfax County police received a call about a sedan in a ditch at Kirby and Birch roads shortly after 3 p.m. today (Monday), spokesman Sgt. Greg Bedor told Tysons Reporter.
Bedor said that rescue personnel responded, and one person was taken to the hospital with minor, non-life threatening injuries.
The crash caused a “brief road closure” of Birch Road “to get the car out safely,” Bedor said.
When Tysons Reporter showed up around 3:50 p.m., the car was lying on its side atop utility lines with the roof ripped off — though the roof might have been removed by rescuers trying to free the vehicle’s occupant.
Utility crews are checking the tension wire to the utility pole, Bedor said, adding that the crash is under investigation.

A woman died after her vehicle ran off of Route 267 in Tysons East and struck two trees early this morning (Thursday).
The fatal crash happened around 2:30 a.m. on westbound Route 267 (Dulles Access Road) just west of Route 123, Corinne Geller, a spokesperson for the Virginia State Police, said.
“A Honda Civic was traveling west on Route 267 when it ran off the road and struck two trees. The impact of the crash caused the vehicle to roll over the guardrail and back into the westbound lanes of the highway,” Geller said.
The woman, who was the only person in the vehicle, died at the scene, Geller said.
Police are still trying to contact the woman’s next of kin and have not released her name.
The crash remains under investigation.
