(Updated at 5:20 p.m.) A man died this morning following an incident at the Capital One construction site in Tysons, according to the Fairfax County Police Department.
FCPD said that the man, Nelson Aguilar-Salamanca, was brought to the hospital and pronounced dead after he was struck by a rebar that fell from a crane at the 1600 block of Capital One Drive.
A police spokesperson said the first 911 call was received around 7:30 a.m. and that the incident happened in front of the Capital One headquarters.
Aguilar-Salamanca was a 55-year old Maryland resident, according to an FCPD press release, which added that he was working on the site as a subcontractor.
Construction is still underway on the second phase of Capital One’s corporate campus in Tysons, which is set to include a Wegmans grocery store and a performing arts center. Construction is set to wrap up in 2021.

After being stabbed in his own home, a 61-year old man from Vienna died yesterday at the hospital, according to the Fairfax County Police Department.
The victim, Mohammed Hemmatian, was found by first responders at 2900 Edgelea Road with upper body trauma on Sunday morning (Dec. 29) around 8:30 a.m., according to a police report.
Another man, 27-year old Abdulloi Toshpulodzoda, was on the scene after the incident and is now facing murder charges, police said. Toshpulodzoda was originally taken to the hospital for an evaluation but was not injured; police say he later suffered a medical emergency at the hospital.
Both men lived at the address, in the Vienna area, according to FCPD.
The events leading up to the violence are still unclear.

Tysons may not have the liveliest nightlife at the moment, but that could soon change as more late-night restaurants and places to hang out open. “Tysons After Dark” will highlight a different spot every week.
Whether you’re already into fitness or one of the many people making a New Year’s goal to exercise more in 2020, there are several gyms around Tysons to check out.
Tysons Reporter did some research on gyms and fitness studios in the area and separated them into Tysons’ eight neighborhoods. This week, we’re profiling the ones in Tysons West.
24 Hour Fitness (1500 Cornerside Blvd, Suite A) has typical gym offerings, including an indoor pool, weights, cardio equipment, racquetball court, sauna and basketball court. The club offers groups for cycling and exercise, classes and training. The club is open from 4 a.m. to midnight every day of the week, according to its website.
Tysons Playground Fitness & Performance Center is a family-oriented space with youth programs for kids ages 8 and up and weight loss programs for adults at 8502 Tyco Road, Suite B. Members have 24-hour access to the facility, according to the website.
Tysons City Boxing (8501- 2A Tyco Road) offers boxing, kickboxing, Muay Thai and circuit training for beginners and advanced people. Most of the classes appear to be scheduled in the afternoon, with ones extending into the evening at 5:45 p.m., 6:45 p.m. and 7:45 p.m., according to the schedule.
Another boxing studio — Rock Steady Boxing — has a non-contact boxing-based fitness curriculum for people with Parkinson’s Disease. The facility is located at 8501 Tyco Road A-2.
Hot Yoga Tysons has “hot, warm and cool” classes running as later as 9 p.m. on certain days. The studio is at 1420 Spring Hill Road, Suite 130.
BREAKAWAY Fitness has treadmills, an open floor, cable cross, hammer strength, ellipticals, bikes and rowers, along with personal training, massages and group exercise, according to its website. The facility is open from 6 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Friday and from 7 a.m.-noon on Saturday at 1524 Springhill Road, Unit GG.
Fitness chain CrossFit has two locations — one called “Route 7” (8504-B Tyco Road) and another called “Tysons Corner” (8453 Tyco Road, Suite K). Both have classes in the evenings.
Fans of Orangetheory Fitness can find the hour-long classes at 1430 Spring Hill Road, Suite 150. The studio offers classes in the evenings, with the latest ones starting around 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. on certain weekdays.
The Edge Strongman 2.0 (8502-B Tyco Road) “is dedicated to providing elite-level strongman coaching to both men and women with the equipment, personalized service and extensive knowledge,” according to its Facebook page. It is open until 9 p.m. on weekdays and until 4 p.m. on weekends, according to its website.
(Updated at 11:05 a.m.) A robbery happened at the CVS pharmacy in the Town of Vienna, local police say.
The incident occurred shortly after 8:30 p.m. last Monday (Dec. 16) at 337 Maple Avenue E.
Vienna police said a woman dressed in black clothing and a head covering went up to the cashier at the CVS pharmacy “in a very aggressive manner and demanded all the money from the register while reaching into her jacket pocket.”
“The cashier, fearing that she may have a weapon, surrendered all the money from the register and the suspect left the scene,” police said.

Police officers, detectives, and a K-9 unit responded and searched the area but were unable to find the suspect. Officers and detectives on the scene obtained vital information that was broadcast to surrounding jurisdictions. Shortly after this robbery, a suspect fitting the same description committed another robbery in Fairfax County and was apprehended after leaving the scene of the second robbery.
In a separate incident, three roommates in the 600 block of Tapawingo Road SW reported to the Vienna Police Department that their parked vehicles’ tires were slashed with a sharp instrument between the night of Dec. 16 and the morning of Dec. 17.

The new year will mean a fresh look for Capital Grille near Tysons Corner Center.
The restaurant plans to expand at 1861 International Drive and relocate outdoor seating with a patio fence, according to a building permit.
The restaurant will also get a renovated vestibule area and demolish the “existing bank canopy” — possibly referring to the Presidential Bank branch next door.
Since the permit was processed yesterday (Dec. 26), it’s unclear when the work would start.

The new year will usher in a new series of concerts at Wold Trap.
On Sunday (Jan 12), Will Liverman, on the baritone, and Ken Noda, on the piano, will take the stage to perform “Die Winterreise.” The performance will take place at 3 p.m.
Tickets start at $42 and can be purchased online. This show does not have an intermission.
An Evening With JD Souther gives the audience a chance to listen to his music inspired by Southern California. He will perform on Jan. 15. The show will begin at 8 p.m. and the tickets are $42.
At 8 p.m. on Jan. 17, Bailen will perform. The group blends together folk-rock with pop influences to earn a spot on Sofar Sounds’ 2018 artist watch list. Tickets start at $22.
Concert-goers can pretend they are in the tropics from Jan. 24-25 when the Masters of Hawaiian Music takes the stage. Tickets start at $27 and the performances begin at 8 p.m. both evenings.
The concerts for the month will wrap up with two evenings of International Guitar Night from Jan. 29-30. To celebrate the 20th anniversary, the event page promises a diverse lineup with artists from around the world. Tickets begin at $32 and the events will take place at 8 p.m. both evenings.

The developer behind the Scotts Run development in Tysons wants to make some changes to the project.
The changes, which were proposed in November, include an adjustment to two heights to a parking podium connected to a residential building, according to Lynne Strobel, the attorney representing the Smith Group.
The developers want to raise the parking garage height from four stories to five for one building and from 4.5 to five for another, according to documentation from Strobel, adding that the height is still within the range originally approved by Fairfax County.
“The podium will appear to be an extension of the building with the use of glass and masonry,” the documents said.
The 26-story building, which will primarily include residential housing, would no longer include underground parking with the proposed changes.
“It’s within the same range of units,” Strobel said, adding the changes won’t affect residents outside of an aesthetic design shift.
When development changes are minor, a Fairfax County Planning Commission spokesperson said that it is not always necessary to host a public hearing or require the Fairfax Board of Supervisors to re-approve the proposal.
The upcoming buildings sit on roughly an acre of land, according to Fairfax County records and will be partially designated for affordable housing options.

The Fairfax County delegation to the General Assembly will hold a public hearing for the upcoming 2020 session.
The hearing will take place on Saturday, Jan. 4 at 9 a.m. in the board room of the Fairfax County Government Center (12000 Government Center Parkway).
Residents interested in speaking at the hearing should register online or contact the county’s Department of Clerk Services at 703-324-3151 by Thursday, Jan. 2.
Only county residents can speak either on behalf of themselves or an organization serving county residents. All speakers will be allocated three minutes to address the delegation. The hearing will be streamed online.
