Virginia Tech’s Evening MBA announced that students will return to its Falls Church center for classes this August. The Evening MBA program is among the best in the country and the top part-time MBA program in Virginia, according to a 2022 survey of the nation’s top graduate schools by U.S. News & World Report.

“We know many students choose the Evening MBA because they value the in-person interactions they have with classmates and faculty members,” said Rebecca McGill, associate director of MBA recruiting at Virginia Tech. “We’re excited to return to in-person classes and provide those rich learning and networking opportunities that some find they’ve missed in the online environment.”

At the same time, McGill says there has been a high level of interest in Virginia Tech’s recently launched Online MBA.

“We were pleased with the level of interest for our first Online MBA cohort, and I think that reflects the changing needs and preferences of today’s professionals after a year of adapting to remote work,” said McGill.

Dana Hansson, director of MBA programs at Virginia Tech, says it’s important to adapt to meet students wherever their needs are. “Our strategic focus since 2013 has been to provide working professionals with flexible options that fit into their personal and professional lives,” she said.

Virginia Tech’s current suite of programs includes the Evening MBA, Online MBA and the Ballston-based Executive MBA. All are part-time formats designed with working professionals in mind.

Applications for the Evening MBA program are due July 1. Learn more about Virginia Tech’s MBA programs at mba.vt.edu.

Happy first day of summer for the kids!

With school wrapped up for the year, I’m turning my sights to the quickly approaching Father’s Day weekend, coming up this Sunday, June 20.

While traditional plans of brunch or dinner out is always a safe bet, I wanted to come up with some other outings that might be new to you that don’t involve food (for once).

Take a look:

  • Tidal Basin paddle boats: Open daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. by reservation, the paddle boats accommodate up to four people per boat and are available for one-hour rentals.
  • Yards Park: If you have little kids, head over to Yards Park, open daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Find a “pool” of sorts with water features, like a waterfall and fountains. Before or after, stop by one of the many places to eat — plus green space for a picnic or running around.
  • Canal Park: This is another water/splash area for little kids (open 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.) with nearby restaurants.
  • Lake Accotink Park: Here, find a marina and bike rentals, plus other fun activities, including a carousel, mini-golf, trails, pedal boat rentals and kayak rentals. (Open noon to 8 p.m. with the last rental at 6:30 p.m.)

Do you have something fun planned for the day? Please share with the rest of us in the comments section below!

The first development project to reach completion in the Highland District, The Bexley, is a new residential condominium building.

Located only steps from Tysons’ Wegmans and the Silver Line Metro, The Bexley features 111 luxury residences, a private resident courtyard, secure garage parking, concierge services, a fitness center and many other on-site amenities.

Move-ins have begun, and a limited number of 2- and 3-bedroom homes remain available for sale.

Residents will soon enjoy access to Fairfax County’s new pedestrian bridge connecting Old Meadow Road to the numerous destinations at Tysons Corner Center, such as dining, theater, shops and hotels. Walkability is key for Bexley owners, and hot spots like McLean Sport & Health are only a short stroll away.

NVHomes welcomes potential buyers to tour three decorated models during private appointments, which can be reserved online. Prices range from the mid $700s to $1 million+. Private garage parking, secure storage and immediate move-in are available.

You can also check out the property on YouTube.

The Bexley is a partnership between NVHomes, architect KTGY and locally-owned Eichberg Construction.

Many of the local sports teams wrapped up their seasons this weekend, except for those continuing on to playoffs. One of the best traditions of youth sports is the end-of-the-season party where the kids get to just be kids — be loud, let the parents socialize and really just enjoy a moment of happiness.

Here in Vienna we are lucky to have a lot of great options for these gatherings. Here are several of them:

Team Meals

Remember to call the location a few days in advance and let them know you’re coming!

  • Vienna Inn is a local favorite, especially with its outdoor tent, which makes the Covid factor a little easier to manage.
  • Foster’s Grille is a great (air-conditioned!) option. They usually set up a long table for the kids with booths or tables nearby for the parents. They also have a mini arcade, which is always fun for the kids if you bring cash.
  • For cool treats, head to Dairy Queen, Rita’s, Ben & Jerry’s, or Kiln & Co.

Delivery

Many of the local fields have pavilions available for reservation through Fairfax County. For example, at Nottoway Park, there are multiple covered pavilions you can reserve after games.

If you reserve a pavilion, you can always get food delivered, like pizza, Rita’s or Ben & Jerry’s, to name a few options.

Also, don’t forget to thank your coaches. Many are parent volunteers who give up a lot of time to coach these kids.

Are you excited to start hosting dinner parties again? Maybe it’s the prospect of cooking as much as hosting that is making you look forward to these summer months. A home’s kitchen is a gathering place just as much as it is a functional day-to-day hub.

Are you thinking about selling your home? Make your kitchen shine with these simple ABCs:

  • New appliances are a great way to get buyers’ attention. Modern appliances offer convenient features and typically provide higher energy efficiency.
  • Nearly bare countertops that are clean and clear are a must, so buyers are able to see the kitchen as their own rather than being distracted by clutter. Consider simple staging with a cookbook, bottle of wine or bowl of fruit.
  • Enhance the cabinetry. Replacing cabinetry can be costly, so sellers should also think about either repainting, replacing the doors or simply switching out the hardware to wow buyers.

Now, let’s dig in on a few active listings that boast mouthwatering kitchens:

8334 Alvord Street, McLean, VA 22102, listed for $6,295,000

1650 Silver Hill Drive #1409, McLean, VA 22102, listed for $649,900

5500 Holmes Run Pkwy #519, Alexandria, VA 22304, listed for $264,000

749 Chain Bridge Road, McLean, VA 22101, listed for $8,500,000

672 Pinewood Drive, Annapolis, MD 21401, listed for $699,000

2354 N. Quincy Street, Arlington, VA 22207, listed for $1,580,000

Meet Benny and Hunter, a sweet bonded duo looking for a new home.

Here’s what their friends at 4Paws Rescue Team had to say about them:

These two boys are looking for a new home due to changes in their current one. They are a bonded pair and need to be adopted together. This is what their current owner says about them:

“Hunter, who we normally call Brother, is a very sweet boy. He loves to cuddle on the couch with Benny. He has been such a good cat since the day I got him. He is a little on the shy side but just give him a few minutes, and he will warm right up to you. He tolerates my toddler very well, but I think he would be happiest in a home with no little kids. He is the more vocal of the two cats, but still does not really meow too much. If you are looking for a super sweet cat to lay on the couch and take naps with you, this is your guy!

Benny (in front) is the king in the house. He loves to play with Brother and drop down in a patch of sunlight on the carpet and take a nap. He usually comes out to greet new people to ensure the coast is clear for Brother to come out. He is a bit of a piglet and always looking for snacks. I would not leave an unattended plate around him! He loves sneaking under the covers to take a nice long nap. He does not tolerate my toddler as well as Brother, but we have never had an issue. Again, I think a home with no little kids would be the best fit.”

Hunter’s estimated birth date is March 2014 and Benny’s is April 2015. They are neutered, current on vaccinations, have tested negative for FIV and Feline Leukemia, and are microchipped.

Will you, Benny and Hunter make the perfect trio?

With the official start of summer upon us, many are already thinking of how to pass the hot summer days with water play.

Many of the public options were closed last year for little kids, like splash pads and spraygrounds, but it appears that won’t be the case this year. Fairfax County announced the opening of its spray parks yesterday.

If you’re looking for places to take young kids, here are some ideas:

  • Our Special Harbor (6601 Telegraph Road, Franconia): This Chesapeake Bay themed splash park has a water maze, dumping crab basket, spray fountains, misting flowers and interactive water tables. Aquatic shoes or sandals with a back strap are required for kids under 15. There’s also a carousel.
  • The Water Mine Family Swimmin’ Hole (400 Lake Fairfax Drive, Reston): Here you’ll find a pool, slides, a lazy river, an area for kids with a smaller slide, covered picnic areas and chairs for lounging. This is a great option for day trips to a pool if you’re not a member of any of the local pools. We bought a family pass our first summer in Vienna when we weren’t members of a pool yet, and it was a great way to pass the summer. We have also done birthday parties here — so much fun!
  • Ocean Dunes Waterpark (6060 Wilson Blvd, Arlington): Explore multiple pools for different ages, large slides, a “sprayground” with a dumping bucket and many areas for lounging in the sun. It’s also adjacent to an 18-hole mini-golf course — another great way to pass a lazy day!
  • Volcano Island Waterpark (20015 Volcano Drive, Sterling): This is another great option with a pool, “sprayground,” slides and a dumping bucket.
  • Atlantis Waterpark (7700 Bull Run Drive, Centreville): Keep the kids busy with waterslides, pools, a play island with smaller slides and a huge 500-gallon dumping bucket.
  • Great Waves Waterpark (4001 Eisenhower Avenue, Alexandria): For the adventurous, this park includes speed slides, waterslides, a wave pool and a small kids’ zone for the younger crowd. There’s also a mini-golf course, batting cages, playground and cabanas.
