Squash players in the Tysons area now have a new place to practice at.
Play Squash Academy held a grand opening earlier this month for its spot at 8455-L Tyco Road.
The Tysons location is the third one for the squash academy, which offers programs for junior and adult players in McLean and Potomac, Md.
The new facility has three internationally sized courts. The academy programs include clinics, private lessons and match play.

A new education center opened in the Mosaic District earlier this month.
Kumon (2980 District Avenue) began enrollment in late August and now offers young students extra help in subjects like math and reading to supplement their education, Tanya Khandpur, the location’s owner and main educator, said.
The center works with kids from the early stages of reading and math all the way through calculus and reading comprehension, according to the location’s website.
Khandpur said that business has been excellent since they opened and that the center has met its enrollment goals.
She employs several assistants to help teach the kids at the center in small groups. “For students qualifying into our early learning program we work two students to one assistant and for our main classroom, we work four students to one assistant,” Khandpur said.
Parents who are interested in the company’s programs can sign up online or attend an orientation session. The center is open from 3- p.m. Monday-Thursday.
Kumon also has locations in Vienna (525 W. Maple Avenue), Falls Church (7115 Leesburg Pike) and McLean (1320 Old Chain Bridge Road).
Once a Kumon student herself, she said she personally believes in the center’s mission.
“I feel very strongly that the Kumon program can serve beyond academics and build a strong bond between parents and children, especially when implemented correctly.”

- Community Conversation: Shaping the Future of Fairfax County Together — 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Marshall High School (7731 Leesburg Pike) — Fairfax County wants feedback from citizens about what they want their community to look like in 10-20 years. This is an opportunity for people to gather and give input at an open forum.

- Alya Salon Grand Opening Party — 5:30-8:30 p.m. at Ayla Salon (139 Park Street SE) — This new hair salon will celebrate its grand opening with food, drinks, music, various product samples and a mini-fashion show.

- Friday Night Live — 8-11 p.m. at Falls Church Distillers (442 S. Washington Street) — Each week, this free event invites community members to gather for live music.
Saturday (Sept. 28)
- Merrifield Fall Festival — 11 a.m.-6 p.m. at the Mosaic District (2910 District Avenue) — This festival gives attendees the opportunity to enjoy some fall weather while listening to live music, enjoying brews from Caboose Brewing in Strawberry Park and shop at the local farmers market and on-site craft fair. This event is free to attend.
Sunday (Sept. 29)
- Plant Swap — 11 a.m.-noon at Botanologica (817 W. Broad Street) –– This free event gives community members the chance to trade plants or clippings. Organizers ask that participants bring only healthy plants, label the species and provide written care instructions for the next owner.
- Pimmit Hills Day — 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at Olney Park (1840 Olney Road) — This festival invites community members to check out live music and various vendors offering live music, food and drinks. All ages are welcome to this free event. There will also be activities for kids.

A community space for textile and fabric arts is now open in the City of Falls Church.
TINT opened last weekend at 417 W. Broad Street, Suite 100, according to a Facebook post.
“TINT is a space for modern makers quilt, sew, knit, spin, crochet, and more,” the website says. People can also find fabric, yarn and other materials for sale.
TINT plans to offer workshops and classes, and starting next week, people can take part in a lunchtime series of workshops about self-care. Art therapist Jennifer Baldwin is scheduled to stitch a fabric mandala on Wednesday, Sept. 25, from noon-1 p.m.
The space is open 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on Saturdays, noon-4 p.m. on Sundays, 10 a.m.-9 p.m. on Wednesdays and 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on Fridays, along with appointment-only times, according to the website. TINT is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

(Updated 9/20/19) A new Burlington location plans to celebrate its grand opening today (Sept. 20) along Leesburg Pike in Tysons.
The store held a ribbon-cutting this morning, a press release said, adding that the first 500 customers today will receive a free tote bag.
Tomorrow (Saturday, Sept. 21) from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m., the store will host a family fun event featuring activities for kids, giveaways and a DJ, according to the press release.
Burlington offers customers lower-cost home goods and apparel options for men, women and children. The store will take up 42,900 square feet of empty space at Pike 7 Plaza (8355 Leesburg Pike).
The new store will be open from Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. until 11 p.m. and Sundays from 9 a.m. until 10 p.m.
With stores in 45 states and territories, including Puerto Rico, the chain has over 631 locations and counting, according to the Burlington website. The Tysons location is opening along with two dozen other locations throughout the country this month.
“This new location brings jobs to the community and provides a great shopping experience for the entire family,” Tom Kingsbury, the chief executive officer and chairman of Burlington Stores, said in a press release.
Shoppers at Tysons Corner Center will soon be able to get Invisalign at the mall next week.
Northern Virginia Orthodontics offers Invisalign and braces at two locations in Ashburn and one in Reston.
Now an NVO Invisalign Studio is coming to the second level by Nordstrom in Tysons Corner Center.

The studio is set to open on Monday, Sept. 16, according to an Instagram post.

The wait is over for Mediterranean restaurant Zenola. The restaurant announced on Friday (Sept. 6) that it opened in Vienna.
Zenola had previously pushed its expected opening from the winter to this summer.
“We’ve spent the last year renovating [our] space and creating a warm and inviting dining experience for our guests,” the restaurant said in an email.
Located in the former Maplewood Grill space (132 Branch Road SE) near the Fresh Market, the restaurant serves up Mediterranean cuisine. Diners can find pan-roasted quail, stuffed grape leaves and crab lasagna on the menu.
Founder and Executive Chef Samer Zeitoun was inspired by one small fruit: olives.
“Food is our passion and the olive is our inspiration,” Zenola says on its website, adding:

A husband and wife team have opened a business franchise that cleans and does maintenance on homes in the Tysons area.
Carmen Hendricks and Chad Akers, who both have backgrounds in real estate, decided to join the TruBlue Total House Care franchise after looking for affordable home care in the area, according to a press release.
“There was definitely a need for a holistic, reasonably-priced approach to exterior and interior home maintenance in this area that could help seniors stay in their homes longer and be great for busy professionals, like ourselves, who want to spend less time working on their own homes and more time with family and friends,” Hendricks said.
TruBlue Total House Care of Vienna provides handyman, maid, lawn and seasonal services in Vienna, Oakton, Tysons, McLean, Great Falls, Falls Church and Dunn Loring.
The business offers a monthly maintenance program, along with services to homeowners, realtors and rental property owners who need help with moving maintenance and commercial services for business clients.
“We both love this area, but have never felt like we’ve gotten to know the community or the people who live here, other than those we have met through work,” she said. “We want to be the neighbor you can trust with all of your house care needs.”

Playa Bowls is now serving up acai bowls, poke, smoothies and juice in the Mosaic District.
The health food eatery opened Saturday, Aug. 17, according to a Facebook post. Playa Bowls occupies 2910 District Avenue, Suite 168 — the former space for Capital Teas.
The menu offers a variety of bowls, including ones with acai, coconut and oatmeal bases, along with smoothies, juices and poke bowls.
Playa Bowls has more than 65 locations around the U.S., according to its Facebook page. The Mosaic District spot is the first Virginia location for the franchise.

A body sculpting service plans to open in a building by Tysons Corner Center.
A building permit indicates that Elite Body Sculpture is moving into 1919 Gallows Road.
Elite Body Sculpture provides personalized body contouring — “No area is off limits; if you can pinch it, we can take it,” the website says.
Currently, Elite Body Sculpture lists locations in Beverly Hills, Sacramento, Dallas, Houston, Chicago, Atlanta, New York City and Nashville.
