Medicine Cabinet Clean-out Results — The Fairfax County Police Department’s 2018 Medicine Cabinet Clean-out drive collected more than 2,200 pounds of expired or unwanted medications, including 351 pounds collected at the McLean District Station alone. [FCPD]

Vienna Buying New Snow Plow — “Winter is coming, and the Vienna Town Council on Oct. 15 voted 7-0 to ride a buy a 2-ton dump truck and snow plow from Henderson Products Inc. and National Auto Fleet Group, using the town’s vehicle-replacement funds. This Saturday (Oct. 27) Fairfax County residents will have a chance to safely and anonymously rid themselves of all those old pills stockpiled in the medicine cabinet.

Those in the Tysons area can dump their unused or expired medicine at the McLean district police station at 1437 Balls Hill Road free of charge from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The drop off is only taking pills and liquids, no needles or pressurized canisters.

Other FCPD stations will also be open for drop offs.

Getting rid of unused or expired medicine is important, as abuse, misuse or accidental poisoning can lead to serious health problems, but simply washing the pills down the drain or throwing them away can lead to environmental issues when the medicine filters into a body of water.

Last year’s Operation Medicine Cabinet Clean-Out collected a total 2,623 lbs of drugs across the county, with 264 lbs collected in the McLean district.

Fight to Keep Claude Moore Farm Open — “The National Park Service has said Claude Moore will close Dec. 21, but the Farm is fighting to stay open… The Park Service presented the Friends of Claude Moore Colonial Farm with its standard agreement, but the Friends felt they could not operate under its terms.” [McLean Connection]

Church Holding Event on Pornography — Vienna Presbyterian Church is holding an event next month for parents and teens entitled “Pornography, A Public Health Crisis.” The event will include “a workshop to help attendees confidently discuss the real risks or pornography use and an action plan to more effectively block pornography exposure online.” [Patch]

Vienna Town Hall Parking Changes — “The Vienna town government plans to shift some parking spaces in the lot behind Town Hall and install a stormwater-management facility there. The Vienna Town Council on Sept. 17 unanimously approved an up-to-$130,000 contract with LCS Site Services LLC to perform the work.” [InsideNova]
