Chris Green is one of the DMV’s finest fitness instructors. A Lululemon and South Block ambassador, he is a coach and mentor to so many. He embodies grace, positivity and motivation in ways that no one else can. If we could all learn a thing or two from him, the world would be a much better place. He does so much for others, and does so with a smile on his face 99% of the time.
He recently ruptured his Achilles and has an incredibly long and tough journey ahead. As if COVID hadn’t impacted fitness professionals enough, throw this in the mix and it’s a double, even triple whammy. CG is no longer able to work and do what he loves for the time being because of this and we’d love your support.

With McLean AAUW’s September used book sale cancelled, its annual charitable fundraiser, this substitute will enable the branch to fund scholarships and AAUW fellowships and grants as in the past. In 2019 the $47,000 proceeds funded scholarships for a woman returning to college at George Mason, Marymount, and Trinity universities and also supported women’s education through AAUW Funds, a 501(c)(3) entity.
A contribution of $20 will get you on base and have the opportunity to hit a home run and own the baseball. For each $20 the donor’s name will be placed on a list for random selection. You may donate multiples of $20 to enhance the opportunity. Contributions can be made through August 31 directly to McLean Area Branch AAUW, P.O. Box 1002, McLean 22101 or online.
The Safe Community Coalition is sponsoring a student-led, pilot peer-to-peer coaching program for high school and college students. We are looking for students to join the circles for which we already have leaders. This is a great leadership development opportunity for all and will deepen problem-solving, teamwork, inquiry, empathy and reflective skills.
Circles will use a proven, structured peer coaching method to help circle members with their current challenges, questions, or priorities. Each circle will meet four times in July-August, 60-90 minutes. This is not therapy, so clinical issues like severe anxiety, depression, suicidal ideations or OCD are beyond the scope of this program. That said, peer circle leaders and their adult mentors will be trained to spot these issues and connect peers with other great counseling and mentoring resources.
