BREAKING: National Weather Service confirms tornado touched down in Tysons

The National Weather Service determined it was a tornado that touched down in Tysons last night (Thursday).

NWS determined a tornado touched down at 8:41 p.m. and the path’s length was 200 yards with a maximum width of 50 yards. The tornado, which was the lowest category tornado with winds between 65 to 85 mph, caused damage to two gas stations along Chain Bridge Road. NWS reported the winds lifted upwards under the canopy of the Sunoco and caused a corner of it to collapse on the station’s building.
