Pet of the Week: Tater Tot, a sweet senior chihuahua whose owner passed away

The most recent Pet of the Week is Tater Tot, a special needs senior chihuahua whose owner passed away. She’s a sweet lady who’s looking for a comfy home (and lap).

Here’s what her friends at Paws and Claws New England had to say about her:

Meet Tater Tot! She is a sweet senior chihuahua who is looking for a special home to share her cute self with! She is 10-11 years old and weighs in at 7.5 pounds. She came into rescue when she was surrendered to our rescue after her owner passed away and the family did not want to assume her care. While in her loving foster home, she has had her medical needs addressed and given lots of TLC. She is now ready for the magic of her very own forever home!

Tater Tot’s foster mom says she is a super sweet little lady who loves to be in a lap! She enjoys everyone she meets and thrives on attention. She gets particularly excited when its time to eat or someone comes over. I am sure she thinks they are there to pet her — lol! We have designated Tater Tot as special needs as she has some mobility issues and a cardiac condition. Both are treated with daily medications, and she is very stable, enjoying her life and the love of her humans. Screened applicants will get thorough information on her medical issues/meds, etc.

Tater Tot is house-trained. She mostly uses the doggie door in her foster home or pads inside when necessary. She does not need to be crated but will sometimes nap in a crate with the door open. She is leashed trained with a harness and could do short walks. She is fostered with other dogs and does fine unless she is occupying a lap or a snuggle spot on the bed — then she doesn’t want the other dogs trying to nose in on her space! Cat wise, she hasn’t been exposed at her foster home but her foster mom thinks she’d do fine with good introductions. We think her best home would be a teen/adult home given her age.
